Job Description
WCNC in Charlotte, NC is looking for a dynamic and engaging Weekend-Evening Meteorologist/ Multimedia Journalist. This position is responsible for preparing and delivering accurate weather reports for newscasts, webcasts and social media in addition, to pitching, shooting, writing and editing stories for WCNC and WCNC.com, while embracing social media tools for expanding weather coverage and storytelling. But it’s more than just numbers and graphics. The right candidate is a weather storyteller. Great with the science and great with our viewers. The best fit for us will already understand and embrace the significance of having a strong weather presence on social media and possess a multi-platform approach to weather coverage.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Research, prepare and deliver daily weather content utilizing all available weather data, graphics computers and radars.
• Write & post stories on WCNC.com and social media platforms
• Pitch, shoot, write and edit stories for WCNC-TV
• Present on-air with clear, concise, and interesting weather segments
• Prepare and deliver severe weather updates, interrupting regular programming as necessary.
• Prepare and update all weather content over multiple platforms including web and social media.
• Fill in on other shifts when necessary.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
• Four-year college degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
• Demonstrated experience writing, reporting, shooting, and editing video
• Strong communication skills (written/oral) for on-air delivery
• Ability to work under pressure while meeting daily assigned environments
• Knowledge of WSI and WeatherBug equipment preferred. Be proficient at posting content to various websites and social media; computer literacy required, including weather and newsroom computer systems.
• AMS and/or NWA Seal of approval preferred.
• Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources including digital media
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record
