Based in New York City and under the guidance of the Senior Director of Public Relations and Communications Strategy, the Director of Public Relations will lead PR and publicity activities for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group brands, NFL Experience and Blue Man Group, as well as other Cirque du Soleil initiatives in the New York area.
To this end, the incumbent will:
• Develop and oversee the implementation of the yearly PR strategy for each project, ensuring ongoing visibility in New York City, across the United States and in key global markets;
• Provide strategic oversight, counsel and support to local marketing managers and PR agencies for the development and implementation of local PR strategies;
• Liaise with key partners (e.g. NFL, NFLPA, Universal Orlando) to effectively manage media opportunities and generate visibility with national media outlets and influencers;
• Proactively pursue national and international partnerships and events to generate impactful PR coverage;
• Develop PR opportunities related to lifestyle, celebrity and VIP events and ensure media presence. Oversee the planning, implementation and coordination of red carpet events and appearances in national media events;
• Lead all aspects of celebrity and VIP relationship development through VIP ticket requests. In collaboration with local publicists and marketing managers, maximize ensuing coverage with entertainment media;
• Maintain ongoing relationships with key media representatives across the U.S. and key global markets, across the entertainment, travel & tourism, sports and other key sectors;
• Supervise the production of all press material, including press releases, b-roll, etc.;
• Oversee the PR roles and responsibilities delegated to local publicists or marketing managers. Participate in ongoing budgeting process.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• A Bachelors Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Marketing;
• 10+ years of progressively responsible communications experience in a fast-paced business environment, preferably with an entertainment industry background;
• Strong relationships with New York City and national media, specifically sports and entertainment reporters;
• Mastery of the English language, with exceptional writing and editing skills. French is an asset but not required;
• Outstanding communication and persuasion skills;
• Great organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task;
• A strong ability to create and maintain solid business relationships both internally and externally;
• An absolute passion for football AND for live entertainment.
