Director, Direct Marketing Activation
Job Summary
The candidate will serve directly as Activation Account Manager for one or more active clients - and will participate on other accounts in a senior advisory role - and as such must be able to effectively disseminate information, give direction, assign and delegate tasks, communicate and present concepts, represent the Direct Marketing Activation Group in agency meetings and client meetings, and manage other staff members. As a leadership position, the Associate Director candidate will participate in development of campaign plans and Activation Group procedures. Highly polished communication and presentation skills are imperative as direct client contact and senior-level brand strategist interaction is ongoing. In addition, the candidate will research, develop, negotiate, and maintain TV buys for national cable, local broadcast, national network, syndication, and VOD, as well as online video.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Media schedule development – 15%
◦ Effectively negotiate & steward TV buys across multiple networks, stations, & accounts
◦ Serve as market expert, providing insight to the marketplace conditions and opportunities in specific markets or media outlets
◦ Maintain knowledge and understanding of industry trends and new technologies that affect the buying discipline
◦ Work closely with National Cable, Syndication & Spot Market sales management to promote advantageous relationships
• Media schedule management – 20%
◦ Manage market budgets and deliverables (GRPs, impressions, response data)
◦ React quickly to campaign results, and implement required optimizations as directed
◦ Participate as required in special projects under direction of Activation senior management
• Account management – 50%
◦ Serve as primary Activation account manager across several Direct Marketing accounts
◦ Supervise other Activation account managers in senior advisory role, providing guidance and support
◦ Oversee buyers’ duties in negotiating and maintaining TV schedules for several accounts
◦ Provide clear direction to Activation staff regarding client goals and campaign management actions including buy-management optimizations
◦ Represent the Activation Group in meetings/calls with client and brand strategy teams, providing insights, POVs, intelligence, and information relevant to current and potential campaign activity
◦ Manage Activation Group deadlines and deliverables
◦ Interact with senior-level brand strategists in regard to planning and campaign goals
• Administrative – 15%
◦ Train and oversee Buyer/Supervisor-level staff regarding advanced media trends, negotiation techniques, and policies/procedures
◦ Assess and evaluate performance of Assistant Buyer, Associate Buyer, Buyer, and/or Supervisor in accordance with Horizon Media HR processes
◦ Assess and process staff weekly timesheets
◦ Represent Horizon Media and its clients in a professional manner at media industry events and presentations
Supervisory Responsibilities
·Responsible for overseeing an Associate Buyer as direct-report
·Responsible for reviewing and processing staff timesheets on a weekly basis
·Joint participant in development and training of junior staff, and evaluation thereof
·Responsible for directing and guiding other Activation staff members pursuant to client campaign goals
Knowledge and Skills Required.
·Experience working in fast-paced advertising environment
·Minimum 10-years experience in active TV buying in both national and local markets, and syndication
·Buy-management experience, analyzing all aspects of Direct Response metrics including Cost-per-Lead and Cost-per-Point
·Quantifiable negotiation skills, with favorable media industry relationships at management level
·Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
·Experience in creating pricing estimates
·Experience managing multiple simultaneous client accounts
·Effective collaborator and team-player
·Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
·Refined communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation
