The Lead Artist is a visual designer and manager within the WMS art team. Responsible for the timely creation of all art within an art studio and accountable for the training and growth of all artists within the studio. Well-versed with scheduling of art asset creation, the documentation of art assets, and communicating schedules to management. Capable of guiding the artistic design of a project from concept to completion.
Essential Job Functions:
• Responsible for mentorship, evaluations, conflict resolution and recognition of the staff to maintain highly motivated and engaged employees.
• Create exemplary art and expect excellent art quality from studio artists in regards to character design, color theory, layout, text treatment, and animation ability.
• Display a high proficiency in Photoshop, After Effects, and Flash and expert proficiency in at least two or more art software application.
• Continually sharpen artistic abilities through company training, independent learning, and learning from other team members.
• Continually sharpen software expertise through company training, independent learning, and learning from other team members.
• Possess the ability to create art and animation for all game aspects (screen layout, symbol sets, etc) to hand off to studio programmers.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work closely with the Game Designer, producing high-quality art in an iterative process.
• Take responsibility for the timely completion of art assets for assigned studio games and products.
• Create, document, and communicate all project schedules to the studio and management with minimal mistakes.
• Show efficiency in self-managing time with a high degree of accountability and minimal instruction.
Position Requirements
Education: Bachelor of Arts in art/animation
Required Experience: Two years previous experience as a Principal Artist or two years of experience as a Lead Artist in a production environment. At least six years of experience as an Artist working in a business setting.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Working knowledge of scheduling software
• Team management skills
• Understand how to design art for various themes and platforms.
• Excellent drawing and rendering abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Photoshop, Flash, After Effects, Illustrator
• Highly proficient in MS Office
• Working knowledge of Studio max or other 3D platform
• Ability to self-manage time with a reasonable degree of accountability and minimal instruction
• Understand how to design art for various themes and platforms
• Display a high degree of professionalism at all times, accepting critique from the Game Designer and other team members.

• Samples of sketch work (sketchbook or loose-leaf)
• Layered working Photoshop, Flash, After Effects, and Studio Max files as appropriate to the position
• Animation samples if animation is core ability (AVI, Quicktime, or website)
