Position Description:
The Government Relations (GR) Manager position is a position responsible for supporting government relations and community relations initiatives within Mediacom’s service area. Mediacom provides video, high-speed Internet and phone services to residential and business customers. For each community it serves, Mediacom maintains either local or state issued franchise agreements in order to access the rights of way in those communities.
As GR Manager you will negotiate local franchises where necessary and assisting in the preparation and filing of state franchise applications and reports as required in your assigned geographical area. The GR Manager will also be responsible for communicating operational changes (pricing adjustments, channel additions/deletions, new product launches, etc.) to the communities served by the Mediacom in your area, and expected to meet regularly with local government and community leaders regarding company initiatives. In addition, the GR Manager will be expected to be an active participant in state and national trade association lobbying activities.
Additional duties required are:
• Collaboration with legal staff and operational team members on a wide range of issues.
• Direct and indirect interaction with state and federal legislative and regulatory offices.
• Give presentations to government and community leaders regarding company initiatives.
• Maintain accurate and up to date contact list of government and community leaders.
• Work with internal public relations team to respond to inquiries from local media.
Position Requirements:
• Bachelors Degree; JD preferred but not required
• Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong negotiating skills
• Willingness to travel
