The Sourcing Manager coordinates the sourcing of HMH product development work with suppliers who deliver quality product within budget and on schedule. This position manages the bid process with partners, negotiates final rates, and initiates contracts. The Sourcing Manager develops and maintains relationships with strategic partners, utilizing standard operating processes with our partners and/or the contingent labor workforce.
Project responsibilities include:
1. Understanding Project Scope: Understands what is needed to secure a supplier for development work. Familiar with SoW documents and understands content development tasks that our suppliers perform. Helps our suppliers' understanding of tasks and scope when bidding for work or regarding change in scope. Works with Studio Leads and Finance to ensure SoW includes all supplier tasks, so that our expectations for quality and delivery are met, and that the suppliers' efforts match the allocated budget.
2. Supplier Sourcing: Manages the bidding process with identified suppliers on assigned projects for digital and print products for the educational market. Negotiates, awards, and manages suppliers to ensure they perform work that accurately represents the tasks required of them. Negotiates the best possible rates for each project without sacrificing quality at the supplier. Maintains supplier relationships and manages the procurement process by following engagement best practices.
3. Budget Management: Ensures an overall 100% adherence to budget and strives for negotiated savings against initial bids. Actively supports the Change Order review process, and as needed, participate in the negotiation of rates for out of scope work and ensure approval and compliance. Manages final invoices through completion of project.
4. Customer Focus: Sets up the supplier for success by ensuring they have a full understanding of the assignment and all relevant materials before the launch. Provides and solicits feedback early and often from all stakeholders throughout the project. Drives the importance of quality and accuracy with the supplier at every stage of the development process. Works closely with the supplier, having day-to-day responsibility for the quality and cost effectiveness of the suppliers’ services. Communicates regularly, consistently, and timely with internal and external customers and ensure their satisfaction with responses.
5. External Resource Planning: Works with PDM Studios, Finance, and Sourcing Managers to determine which parts of projects will require supplier support. Follows recommendations by Studio Leads or Sourcing Managers as to which suppliers make the best fit for the project based on their knowledge of suppliers' strengths and capabilities. Collaborates with others in Sourcing Strategy to understand which suppliers are unavailable or underperforming in order to make appropriate assignments.
6. Representing Strategic Sourcing Team: Acts as a role model for the Strategic Sourcing team in all aspects of the work performed. Advocates and participates in process improvement and positive change initiatives. Acts in conjunction with Director to achieve own and team member's personal and professional growth.
