Description
Scripps is seeking a Senior Director, Research to be based at our corporate office in Cincinnati, OH. This person will be responsible for delivering high-impact, actionable market and customer insights to improve how we engage Scripps audiences and drive audience and revenue growth.
Key activities
• Lead the collection, analysis and communication of audience data for the Scripps television division that will support decision making and strategy
• Manage and interpret the data and develop strategies that utilize the data for maximum effect for local stations and the company
• Utilize a variety of syndicated and internal sources (comScore, Nielsen Online, Omniture, Visible Measures, Hitwise), to develop and maintain reporting that evaluates performance across E. W. Scripps platforms
• Ensure data is organized and communicated in a way that is understood by the end user
• Work with local station research departments
• Create and conduct research projects that are not completed by external consultants
• Compile and interpret monthly and quarterly audience reports
• Establish guidelines and processes to support local initiatives
• Track success of local marketing programs and broadcast programming
• Work with the greater industry to create standards on audience measurement, particularly online
• Negotiate and manage relationships with multiple vendors and sources, i.e. Nielsen, etc. for training, best practices etc.
• Assist with re-trans strategies and negotiations
• Participate in the development of group-wide broadcast and digital sales revenue opportunities
Education & Experience/Certifications
• Must Have a Bachelor's degree in media or related field or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of research experience, preferably within an Ad Sales or Consumer Insights environment
Required Skills & Abilities
• Previous experience and strong familiarity with Nielsen
• Familiarity with Wide Orbit
• Able to translate data into creative messaging to drive audience and revenue growth
• Significant level of comfort with all aspects of digital research
• Able to multi-task with great ease, and be an exceptional communicator, both with staff (managing up and down) and key clients
• Must be equally comfortable presenting in front of senior executives, creating PowerPoint decks that take difficult data and make it easy to digest, and spending the day trending large blocks of data
• Able to manage people and campaigns across multiple platforms and geographies
• Able to lead industry-facing initiatives by networking, nurturing and leveraging others
• Able to prioritize growth opportunities based on ROI
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Exceptional organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills
