POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Vice President, Investor Relations (VPIR) will report directly to the CFO and work closely with the CEO, and is responsible for creating and presenting a clear and confident message to the investment community on behalf of Autodesk. This role will be responsible for monitoring and presenting to management and the Board of Directors the opinions of the investment community regarding Autodesk performance, industry trends, and actions that may affect the company’s share price, in effect being the voice of the investor internally. This is much more than a tactical corporate access role. We are looking for an IR executive who can operate in a highly strategic fashion and who can be a thought leader at Autodesk.
This role will entail the timely and accurate production of an annual Investor Relations plan, an understanding of our competitors (including financial metrics and differentiations), help build our presentations, press releases, all quarterly earnings-related content, and contribute to the development of annual reports, SEC filings, and proxy statements. The VP IR will also be responsible for leading Autodesk’s Investor Day, and will act as a business partner to the c-suite on all investor-related issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Develop and implement a proactive investor relations strategy and program, ensuring that the company’s business strategy and progress is understood by the analyst and investor community
• Act as a key spokesperson to the investment community with the role of educating and persuading interested parties regarding Autodesk financial performance, industry trends, and business model transition
• Proactively manage expectations with the investment community such that there is no mismatch between Autodesk’s business performance expectations and investor expectations
• Prepare key investment messages and presentations to communicate financial performance, business conditions, and company strategy to sell-side analysts and institutional investors
• Create a working example of the models used by sellside analysts to predict company performance. This will be used to inform qtrly earnings reports, prepare for Q&A, and provide proactive insight into potential issue.
• Anticipate and address investor and analyst issues. Build relationships, respond in a timely manner to analysts’ questions, and gain better understanding of top investors’ behaviors
• Become the investor advocate to senior management and the Board of Directors about financial and industry trends, shareholders concerns, and actions that might impact the company’s share price
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with analysts and investors, and other members of Autodesk executive team
• Provide practical and meaningful Investor Relations support to Autodesk senior management including counseling and advising executives in regard to conference calls, external presentations, financial releases, and investor visits
• Collaborate closely with Corporate Communications to ensure a consistent message on branding and strategy
• Assess the mix of the investor base and create an annual plan to target and attract long-term investors, to expand and maintain key investors’ ownership positions, and to keep the financial community current on company performance, growth strategies, and industry issues
• Build an in-depth understanding of Autodesk operations, financials, businesses, accounting, and key metrics
• Maintain strong company and sector expertise; stay current on all company and related industry activity in order to be responsive to investors and media and to communicate effectively with management
• Maintain competitive analysis, including the development of industry and peer company performance benchmarks. Continuously measure and update this information and use it to provide a relative performance framework for the investment community
• Lead the quarterly earnings process, which includes creating all communication materials, drafting earnings releases, call scripts, accompanying presentations, as well as preparing talking points and relevant Q&A
• Manage and participate in investment conferences, and organize non-deal roadshows as applicable
• Generate periodic reports to management on market and valuation trends
• Manage the investor relations content on the company web site
• Ensure consistent and up-to-date presentation of company information in third-party publications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
• Ability to build relationships with and interact effectively with investors and financial analysts, as well as executive management, peers, and subordinates to gain cooperation from others, including those in other departments
• Demonstrated success leading a strategic investor relations function, including having successfully developed and implemented strategic, proactive IR plans that have delivered results
• Confidence and a proven ability to communicate both orally and in writing, including the dissemination of financial performance and related information
• Possess a strong network of investment community relationships, including investors, analysts, rating agencies and financial media
• Strong financial analysis skills, broad industry knowledge and sophisticated understanding of investor relations
• Ability to take ownership of projects in area of responsibility and drive them through to completion
• Demonstrated ability to work across the broader finance, accounting, strategy, product development, and sales functions to understand and influence business trends and incorporate this understanding into our external communications
• Strong communications skills, including messaging around financial metrics and reporting for multi-national entities
• Experience in our core markets, competitors, and the subscription business model (recurring revenue and cost structure) is highly desirable
EDUCATION:
• Bachelors degree required, MBA with an emphasis in finance is preferred
• 10+ years experience in investor relations/finance function within a public company, preferably with multi-national software company
• Must be willing to travel 20-30percent of the time for investor meetings and presentations
• People management experience required
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong influencing skills at various levels (staff, peers, superiors) very important
• A strong willingness to learn and the ability to work with multiple personality types
