Job Title: Director of Operations
Reports to: Acting Chair
Position Overview: Responsible for overall facility support and continuous daily operation of the Computer Art, Computer Animation & Visual Effects Department.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty and the SVA community (Continuing Education Department, Administration, Faculty and vendors), as well as the Animation and VFX industry.
• Daily maintenance of the facility’s operations and assessment of faculty and student needs concerning facility/classrooms.
• Works closely with Chair and Senior Systems Director on yearly improvements of the facility.
• Assist the Chair with research for new curriculum to meet the needs and interests of our students.
• Oversee our student lab assistant program including hiring, evaluating, and training.
• Work closely with the Chair and Senior Systems Director to plan and maintain the budget.
• Prepare room schedules for all classes.
• Directly supervise Front Office staff and student workers.
• Review applications and interview new staff and student workers for hire and in consultation with the Chair.
• Hold weekly meetings with departmental staff and monthly meetings with student workers, as well as attend weekly meetings with Chair.
• Assist the Chair with departmental projects, such as curriculum, special events and exhibitions, etc.
• Stay abreast of current software and hardware developments by attending computer art related conferences and exhibitions.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; MA or MFA and/or production experience preferred.
• 3-5 years experience in an administrative role
• Supervisory experience with demonstrated success
• Broad knowledge of computer art software and hardware, including PC, MAC, Video & Sound
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to interact with administration, staff, faculty and students
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
