MoMA PS1 is one of the oldest and largest nonprofit contemporary art institutions in the United States. Summary
MoMA PS1 is hiring for a part time Production Assistant in the Live Programming department, which will support Sunday Sessions, Warm Up, special events and other large-scale museum performances or events.
The Production Assistant support the Associate Producer of Live Programming and Production Coordinators in the planning and execution of live events, including assistance with: technical production, management of A/V equipment and inventory, identifying technical and production needs from artists and event participants, and acts as MoMA PS1 stage crew.
Supervision
The Production Assistant will report to the Associate Producer of Live Programming, and works with Production Coordinators and Curatorial Assistants in the Live Programming Department.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with the Associate Producer and Production Coordinators to support the planning, organization, and execution of MoMA PS1 programs, Sunday Sessions, Warm Up, and other museum-wide events, performances, and rentals.
- Provides on-site technical and production assistance for live events, including load-in, installation, stage management, run crew, and hospitality for artists.
- Provides assistance with tracking production needs, inventory, and building and adjusting production schedules.
- Drafts information emails for artists and event participants.
- Runs errands to source or pick up equipment, and periodic trips to Materials for the Arts.
- Assists with tracking, processing, and coding of live programming-related invoices and expenses.
- Sustains good working relationships with vendors and contractors.
- Attends production and planning meetings, and site visits, as necessary, within the Live Programming department, across other museum departments, and with artists and event participants.
Qualifications
1. Bachelors’ degree with a minimum of 1 year experience in technical production or assistance for live performances and events.
2. Superior knowledge and hands-on experience with of one or more of the following: audio production, video production, lighting production/design, as typically used in live performance and event production.
3. Demonstrated strength in managing time, completing tasks, and being proactive, accountable, and adaptable in dynamic and creative setting.
4. Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented is a must.
5. Strong intrapersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Engages with professionalism when interacting with artists in all situations.
7. Availability to work weekends and overtime hours.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Docs, and other standard office procedures and equipment.
9. Experience with technical production or assistance in museum, galleries, alternative spaces, and outdoor locations a plus.
