About Open Road Integrated Media
Open Road Integrated Media is a prestige content brand delivering digital experiences that entertain and inform readers around the world.
Laser-focused on revenue, reach, and repeat customers, the Open Road network of digital properties produces compelling stories that keep audiences engaged — across devices, content verticals, and global territories.
About the Position
Open Road Integrated Media includes several business areas that work in tandem to connect audiences with great stories: we publish a catalog of ebooks by bestselling authors such as Alice Walker, Michael Chabon, and Joan Didion, and our Ignition program markets ebooks from external publishers. The Early Bird Books newsletter delivers daily ebook deals, and our content newsletters and websites—The Lineup, The Portalist, The Archive, Murder & Mayhem, and A Love so True—circulate articles and deals to more niche audiences.
The Art Department designs Open Road's book covers and marketing materials.
The Design Intern will report to the Designer and assist the Art Department in a number of tasks related to ebook and print design and production, including creating ebook and print book covers from start to finish, researching stock art images, and scanning and correcting interior images. The intern also attends the weekly cover review meeting with the Editorial and Marketing teams and is responsible for taking notes. Along with these duties, the Design Intern will take on some marketing design assignments as needed, such as Facebook ads and other digital ads.
Open Road is a fast-paced, high-profile startup—details and deadlines are of the essence. The right individual will have the unique opportunity to experience all aspects of the book design process in a next-generation publishing environment, within a small, close-knit art department. We also have snacks and coffee in our kitchen, and interns are welcome to attend company events such as birthday lunches or movie nights.
Please note that this internship is for credit. Interns usually work about 20 hours a week, but we will work with them to meet their school's credit requirements.
