Role/Purpose
The Senior User Researcher position will partner with business owners, engineers, and other user experience designers not just within our group but also across the larger organization to create outstanding experiences that support new and ongoing business models as we introduce changes in how we do business with our customers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Design, conduct, analyze, and present research in a fast-paced software development environment, from early strategic direction through post-release validation.
• Employ a wide range of research methods including but not limit to, strategic design research and contextual inquiry, participatory design workshops, formative and summative usability studies, analytics and UX metrics, and customer advisory councils.
• Lead research projects with cross-functional stakeholders including designers, product managers, and engineers, ensuring that all stakeholders participate in the research and experience customer insights.
• Lead internal design thinking and visioning workshops to translate customer insights into product direction.
• Track, communicate, and evangelize insights, goals and metrics to project teams and senior leadership.
Requirements
• At least 3 to 5 years of user research experience for professional desktop software, mobile app or web products.
• Solid research skills and experiences. Familiar with common qualitative/quantitative, behavioral/attitudinal research method or methods sets. Can design, drive and facilitate the research process, then gather, analyze and present the data and results.
• Has the skills and research insights to identify and dig out root problems or requirements through customer interactions.
• Fluent English language skills. Can conduct user research with English speaking customers.
• Familiar with modern software development process and has a clear sense where user research can fit in.
• Ability to solve complex problems and drive projects from concept through implementation.
• Highly adaptable with strong organizational skills.
• Fast leaner
• Proactive; willing to take initiatives and risks.
Additional desired, but not required, qualifications
• Experience with CAD Software.
• An advanced degree in psychology, HCI, or design related subject.
• Previous experience doing user research for complex creative, 2D/3D modeling or engineering applications.
• Expertise in modern software development processes and concepts (Agile) for user experience.
• Entrepreneurial spirit: experience with software start-up or UX Consulting Services firm.
• Interact with and influence others effectively via teamwork and diplomacy.
• Working knowledge of design software; Adobe Creative Cloud, Sketch, etc.
