Research Manager, Design and Creation Products Group

Autodesk is hiring a Research Manager to lead the Design and Creation Products research team. The research team is a part of the research and analytics team, which is a part of the experience design team. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about human-centered design, and has some experience in analytics and qualitative research. You will lead a global team of researchers, lead strategic research, collaborate with design managers and product managers, and collaborate with the team’s analytics manager and operations manager. You will join a large, well-supported design team to deliver the next generation of industry-leading desktop, web, and mobile design products that serve over 10 million users worldwide.
Corporate responsibilities
• Contribute to the development of the Experience Design practice by developing and sharing new methods and practices and maintaining and building networks outside of Autodesk.
• Build bridges and collaborate with design, engineering, and product management functional areas across the company
• Be a well-respected and trusted thought leader as well as culture carrier. You represent Autodesk design internally and externally.
• Proactively identify, own, and drive some of the most ambiguous and challenging design-org-wide problems.
• Maintain exceptional understanding of company strategy, and maintain leadership presence with key senior executives.
Product Team Responsibilities
• Manage a global team of researchers, who are located across North America, APAC, EMEA
• Partner with Design Managers, Product Managers, and Software Development Managers to drive all stages of research from early product direction through post-release validation, for products with frequent releases in a Lean UX and Agile environment.
• Working with the Director of Research, prioritize resource allocation for effective research insight delivery against the right priorities.
• As a part of the management team for Research and Analytics, collaborate with the Analytics Lead and Operations Manager to widely communicate and evangelize research and analytics across the design and product teams
• Influence a diverse set of stakeholders through excellent relationship building, commitment to driving good decisions, and deep domain expertise in research practices and product development.
• Be a catalyst for improving Autodesk’s relationships with its customers; foster company-wide empathy with a focus on consistently meeting, and often exceeding, customers’ needs.
How You’d Spend Your Day
• Guiding innovative researchthat combines analytics and qualitative methods, on multiple projects and multiple platforms (desktop, web, mobile), on exciting new features, for multiple products, such as streamlined office to field workflows, predictive interfaces, and cloud integration.
• Collaborating with design and product leadersacross multiple product groups to ensure that research is prioritized, focused, and impactful.
• Acting as the voice of user research to design and product leadership, with the ability to present compelling stories and insights
• Sharing customer insights with the broader organizationin creative ways to increase customer empathy, including workshops, posters, and fun and engaging share-outs with other research teams.
• Connecting with the broader design community within and outside of Autodesk. You will participate in the larger design community at Autodesk, and evangelize research and design in the public community through events such as Sum of the Parts Speaker Series and Design Nights.

Job Requirements
• Demonstrated ability of all listed job responsibilities
• 5+ years of relevant work experience in research, UX, and product design
• Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
• Experience with data analytics and statistical analysis
• Experience designing, leading, and managing global research initiatives
• Experience managing or leading a research team
• Proven track record influencing product direction with actionable insights
• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Highly adaptable with strong organizational skills
• Ability to solve complex problems and drive projects from concept through implementation

• Bachelor’s degree in cognitive or experimental psychology, statistics, human computer interaction, human factors, or related field; MS/PhD preferred.
