The Content Development Specialist in the Content Development, Standards & Workflow group is involved in three critical areas within the team: Digital Content Standards, Guidelines & Training; Third Party Relationships; and Pearson Digital Product Initiatives. In this role the Content Development Specialist is accountable for planning, digital content best practices standards creation, onboarding, training, and support for internal/external content partners. In addition, this role collaborates with cross-functional teams to plan, resource, and pilot content to serve key Pearson strategic initiatives in the Higher Education disciplines and markets. The role of the Content Development Specialist is a high profile position that requires enthusiasm, agility, creativity, diplomacy, and critical thinking skills. This position reports to the Director of Content Standards, Guidelines, & Training, and is based in the Pearson Boston or Hoboken office.
Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
• Digital Content Standards, Guidelines & Training
In collaboration with the CSGT Director, the Content Development Specialist will be responsible for the following:
• Participate in the creation of standards, best practices, processes and training materials for content creation, development, and revision
• Coordinate and participate in training workshops for internal and external partners to roll out and support our digital content standards and guidelines
• Regularly meet and report progress to the CSGT Director to discuss program progress, troubleshoot risks and dependencies, identify and remedy gaps throughout the content development process to help improve efficiencies and increase communication across Pearson
• Third-Party Relationships
In collaboration the CSGT Director, the Content Development Specialist will be responsible for the following:
• Identify new third party partnerships and review existing partnerships to establish standards and guidelines for content deliverables
• Set up meetings with third party content providers and aid in the assessment of expertise, skill sets, ability to handle volume, quality and consistency of deliverables, samples, successes in the market, agility in handling content and/or schedule changes, and overall fit with Pearson standards and requirements
• Establish and negotiate rates and contracts with third-party content providers that reflect Pearson’s standards and requirements
• Conduct regular reviews of the content vendors’ processes, budget and schedule maintenance and identify efficiencies and opportunities to improve workflow and costs across disciplines
• Create and maintain a third party content provider database including data on specializations, quality ratings, capacity, contribution to product success, education, rates, and compliance with Pearson third party and Independent Contractor standards
• Maintain third party, Independent Contractor agreements and provide and regulate access to Pearson content and systems regularly to comply with Pearson standards
• Participate in onboarding new third party content providers including review of deliverables, schedule, status reporting, template and systems use, content turnover and QA process orientation and training
• Provide outstanding third party content provider support. Be responsive and timely in responding to questions, concerns, requests and escalation of problems to manager and other key stakeholders
• Pearson Digital Product Development and Key Initiatives
In collaboration the CSGT Director, the Content Development Specialist will be responsible for the following:
• Work with the team to plan, manage, and deliver key digital project content on time, on budget, and within scope
• Serve as point person on select Pearson Higher Ed initiatives and represent content standards in cross-functional, internal and external partnerships
• Identify and manage project dependencies and identify resource needs
• Work with internal and external customers to develop project scope of work and create and maintain project plans
• Work with third party vendors, internal stakeholders, and management to clearly communicate the content development roles and responsibilities for each team member and manage the fulfillment of those roles throughout the process
• Track and distribute critical communication and information in a timely fashion to core teams to reduce confusion, redundancies, delays, and additional expense
• Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risk, and devise contingency plans for remediation
General Responsibilities:
• Provide information and guidance to cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with changing Pearson and HSSL requirements
• Adapt a creative, engaging, forward-thinking approach to digital customer-centered problems and solutions
• Develop a deep understanding of Pearson’s corporate mission, initiatives, and standards and serve as a resource for the Higher Ed team to keep them current on changes in processes, requirements, and standards
The successful candidate will work on-site in our Boston, MA or Hoboken, NJ office.
Qualifications
Education:
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; additional advanced e-learning and/or instructional design education-related coursework preferred (or openness to doing coursework in this area)
• Minimum of three or more years of higher education digital content development, standards creation, higher ed training, or course content design experience with proven success required
Required Skills:
• Knowledge of the higher education product line, competitors, instructors, and learner needs.
• Experience and proven success in digital content development in the higher education
• Proven theoretical and practical knowledge and an understanding of how to create efficacious and engaging learner-centered digital content experiences.
• Ability to understand, adapt, initiate, and implement change as required
• Ability to take direction, receive feedback, and work within a small, collaborative team
• Evidence of strategic and analytical thinking and planning, team leadership, communication, negotiation, problem-solving, good judgment, and the ability to influence others
• Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills as well as the ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information effectively
• Ability to lead and collaborate actively with others on internal and external cross-functional teams and to build consensus and foster collaborative relationships across teams
• Ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent organizational skills
• Exceptionally strong attention to detail is required
• Ability to adapt to new software products for course and/or learning experience delivery and learning management systems
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite apps
• Some experience managing projects and people preferred
