Forbes Media seeks a Vice President, Business Intelligence to lead our newly established Business Intelligence team.
Forbes is a dynamic, forward-thinking media company. Over the course of the past three years, Forbes has grown both its print and digital audiences faster than any other major media company (according to Google Analytics and MRI).
That trajectory continues by investing in the best journalists, technologists and analysts in the business. Data analytics and reporting are currently handled within departments. We are looking for a seasoned Business Intelligence professional to consolidate all analysts and reporting into a new Business Intelligence team. This role requires establishing processes and implementing best practices to elevate our analytics and reporting accuracy and efficiency.
This is a rare opportunity to join a global leader in the News Publishing business in a role that can be shaped and defined.
As the leader of the Business Intelligence team, responsibilities will include:
• Managing a team of data analysts who service various business units
• Establishing a BI competency center or center of excellence (BICC or BI COE)
• Consolidating data analytics throughout the company and establishing best practices for processes and report generation
• Overseeing reporting, analytics, data exploration and preparation
• Maintaining data integrity and transparency to increase data confidence across all business units that rely upon web data
• Optimizing data warehousing for efficient reporting
• Establishing management dashboards to provide actionable and timely business insights
• Managing metadata strategy
• Implementing GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) aspects of BI and data management
Qualifications:
Industry/domain skills:
• Extensive expertise in online advertising driven businesses (plus for news media)
• Extensive expertise in Premium Google Analytics and DFP (preferably with multiple media sites)
• Intimately familiar with basic and advanced web analytics collection and reporting including custom event tracking
• Experience working with the raw data from Google Analytics (GA) in BigQuery and other reporting software (e.g., Tableau)
• Familiarity with other 3rd party analytics sources e.g., Moat, SimpleReach, Bitly, Gigya, Brightcove, Bombora, Facebook Audience Insights, etc.
• Experience designing and building KPI dashboards for various internal constituents
• Experience in and understanding of a wide variety of analytical processes (governance, measurement, etc.).
• Experience with agile software development
• Up to date on key BI trends
• Proven ability to establish and articulate a vision, set goals, develop and execute strategies, and track and measure results
• Extensive experience interacting with C-level executives
• Experience managing cross-department BI projects and teams
• Pro-activity in sharing data and potential challenges across departments
• Proven skills to work effectively across internal functional areas in ambiguous situations
• Strong leadership skills within the project team and in the business community
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Technical skills:
