Social media and digital storytelling coach
Are you a strong journalist and digital innovator, and also have a knack for helping and teaching others? If you get your gratification from coaching journalists on how to get the most attention to their journalism, if you are an innovative multimedia journalist with expertise in social media, SEO and digital storytelling, if you have a creative way of approaching storytelling, this is the perfect position for you.
In this job, you’ll coach and direct digital work in our newsroom, focusing on social media and alternative story formats. You’ll collaborate and help guide journalists before, during and after content development. You’ll work side-by-side with senior leaders and topic teams to innovate and to elevate our journalism.
Candidates must have at least five years of journalism experience, including editing experience. Excellent leadership, team building and coaching skills are required and experience in leading change and innovation is helpful. Advanced knowledge of social media and digital analytics tools is preferred.
Coaches and directs digital work of newsroom journalists, focusing on social media, alternative story formats and storytelling. Guides journalists before, during and after content creation, using best practices to promote content and engage audiences, sometimes taking a hands-on approach to accelerate digital content to publication, including working as a senior digital producer. Works with senior leaders and topic teams to innovate and elevate content.
Job Duties:
• Coaches and directs digital work of newsroom journalists, focusing primarily on SEO, social media, alternative story formats and storytelling. 60%
• Works side-by-side with editors, reporters and photographers to set digital goals and develop individualized and topic-specific audience engagement strategies. 20%
• Identify and collaborate with social media and digital leaders in the community. 10%
• Creates and conducts training. 10 %
Requirements:
• Excellent leadership, team building and coaching skills.
• Experience in leading change and innovation.
• Advanced knowledge of emerging audience analytic tools as well as existing analysis and social media tools such as Omniture, Chartbeat, Crowdtangle, Excel data, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and Google Analytics and the ability to interpret and apply such data.
• Ability to produce and edit video stories.
