The oldest musical charity of its kind in the US, the MUSICIANS FOUNDATION was founded in 1914 by the Bohemians (New York Musicians’ Club). Throughout more than a century of giving, the Musicians Foundation Board of Directors has comprised men and women committed to helping musicians weather, with dignity, financial difficulties and personal setbacks. Some notable past board members have included: Leonard Bernstein, Frank Damrosch, Vera Stern, Nora London, Virgil Thomson, Frederick Steinway and Walter Naumburg. Its current Artistic Advisory Council includes Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Bell, Kristen-Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez, Mischa and Cipa Dichter.
MISSION:
Helping professional musicians and their families in times of need by providing emergency financial assistance in meeting current living, medical and allied expenses. We have helped thousands of musicians in the US and across all genres.
ROLE:
Part time position, Assistant to Director (15-20 hrs/week) reporting to Executive Director and Board of Directors and providing clerical, digital, and administrative support. Flexible working hours.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Overview:
Seeking a highly organized and detail oriented individual to prioritize tasks of the Executive Director and Board of Directors The ideal candidate is a self-starter with experience supporting and working administratively in the non-profit sector. He/she will possess excellent verbal & written communication skills and the ability to contribute ideas and “wear many hats” as needed to support and develop the organizations mission. Knowledge of music history and performance a plus.

• Multi-tasker – ability to handle creating social media content, developing press material, taking minutes of meetings, creating reports, analyzing data, handling Wordpress blogposts

Job Functions:
Manage and track approved clients using Excel database
Respond to inquiries about grant process by phone and email
Develop an operational manual for the office
Manage sensitive and confidential information with integrity
Donor Management
Handle administrative aspect of donor management
Create reports of donors as needed
Knowledge of Bloomerang or Donor-Management related program is preferable
Website and Social Media
Update website as needed (WordPress)
Scan and digitize archival materials for research purposes
Assist in managing Social Media – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Blog (WordPress)
Assist with Special Events
Help organize fundraising outreach activities such as concerts and musicales, which can include securing a venue (set-up and break-down) and arranging for invitations, refreshments, and equipment, as needed
Provide Administrative Support for Board and Committee Meetings
Attend Board and Committee Meetings as needed (5 – 6 times a year)
Take detailed notes and minutes of meetings
Outreach
Work with fundraising consultant and grant applications.
Work with ED on newsletter for donors
Working knowledge of Mail Chimp
General Clerical Tasks as needed, per direction by the ED
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience required.
Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook)
Familiarity with Wordpress
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
Knowledge and experience of social media
Flexible schedule that can include evenings and weekends 5 – 6 times a year (for Board Meetings and Fundraising Events)
Creative thinking, ability to contribute ideas, and adaptive attitude to finding solutions for the given task
Effective researching and analytical techniques
Accurate and detail oriented work ethic
