Description
WPTV, The Scripps NBC Station in West Palm Beach, Florida, is looking for a Lead Enterprise Reporter/MMJ to cover daily news in the West Palm Beach Metro area.
The right candidate will be aggressive in covering breaking news, and will demonstrate a traffic-driving attitude. We're looking for content that has potential for greater shelf life and social distribution than typical day-turn "news" stories, though day turns will be a part of this beat as well. You must want to win every day, and know how to build great sources for enterprise story ideas.
You must be a social media powerhouse, leveraging Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and other social platforms to make sure that local audiences are seeing, talking about and sharing your stories.
Key activities:
• Enterprises daily stories to develop content that actively engages a digital audience with potential for cross-platform audience.
• Gathers and verifies facts through interviews, observation, and research.
• Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes stories according to format standards.
• Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.
• Edits videos for all multimedia platforms.
• Assists with online production of all material.
• Maintains an ongoing calendar of events, stories, openings, etc.
• Maintains a blog with entertainment/events tidbits and observations.
• Works with assignment desk daily on calendar of digital stories.
Education & Experience/Certifications:
• 1-3 years experience in digital journalism, with a preferred BA in Journalism
• Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
• Proficient at posting content to various websites.
• Computer literacy required, with a preference for newsroom computer systems.
• Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
• Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.
• Ability to also shoot and edit on iPhone, iMovie.
• Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
Skills & Abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Operates with considerable latitude. Independently performs assignments to results expected. Determines and develops approach to solutions.
• Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems.
• Identifies key barriers/core problems and applies problem-solving skills in order to deal creatively with complex situations.
• Receives technical guidance only on unusual or complex problems or issues.
• Advanced knowledge of organization's technologies and practices.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Driving required. Valid Driver's License, good driving record and ability to provide proof of insurability with company required insurance limits.
