Description
Lead a culture of customer support for station staff. Lead with the design, specifications, documentation, oversight and installation of all systems and equipment for the station. Lead efforts to analyze, research and implement technology needs of the station to give staff a competitive edge. Develop and maintain thorough understanding of existing facilities, work toward making business unit cohesive.
Key Activities
• Lead a collaborative culture of customer service with Engineering Department and the rest of the staff.
• Lead staff to research and test technologies that help the organization to become more efficient in daily job duties. Included but not limited to:
◦ News gathering and marketing tools (photography and editing).
◦ Getting stories (video and scripts) from the field to station.
◦ Tools for the viewer/user/readers to interact and contribute to news gathering.
◦ Newsroom communication.
◦ Sales technology tools.
◦ Equipment and tools for the Engineer and Operations teams used in the execution of newscasts and other programs.
◦ Devices, technology and apps that help with the presentation and workflow for digital platforms including streaming/OTT, podcasts and other emerging platforms.
• Develop, execute and maintain technology communication plan for staff that tracks reporting of equipment issues and response.
• Work with related departments; in the determination of current and future studio and transmission needs; in the preparation and tracking of capital, expense, repair and maintenance budgets; in the evaluation of equipment prior to purchase.
• Effectively manage the planning, design, installation and repair of all television, mobile and internet systems and equipment.
• Evaluate and maintain the spectrum and broadband usage of the facility.
• Oversee a staff of professional maintenance engineers, operators, IT professionals, newscast directors.
• Identify training needs, develop staff to meet the on-going and future technological needs.
• Keep the station compliant with the FCC Rules and Regulations, as well as related local, state and federal regulations.
• Perform other duties as needed and as directed by the General Manager and Sr Dir, Engineering.
Educations & Experience/Certifications
• Bachelor's degree in related field. Field related certifications preferred.
• Minimum of three years of experience in similar leadership position.
Skills & Abilities
• Outstanding customer service skills.
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate at all levels within the organization.
• Working knowledge of IT technologies, systems, and best practices.
• Working knowledge of FCC and FAA regulations to enable collaboration with other professionals in the implementation and management of on-going station obligations is preferred.
• Ability to solve difficult problems; can analyze complex and diverse information.
Work Environment
• Standard office environment.
Lifting Required
• Up to 50 pounds.
Driving Required
• Yes. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage required.
