Job Title
Associate Food Editor - Rachael Ray Every Day
You: Food pro, versatile editor, strong (and speedy!) writer, curious, considerate, and connected. Bonus points for a sense of humor.

The Associate Food Editor creates compelling content (columns, features, and more) that reflects RRED’s fun and approachable, but still aspirational vibe. Assign and write stories and cultivate a stable of talented, experienced food writers and recipe developers. Edit text and recipes according to magazine style. Stay current on food trends and competitors’ content. Communicate with art and photo departments about stories and work closely with our creative teams on photo shoots. Collaborate with the RRED digital team. Duties include loading stories onto the RRED website, contributing ideas and participating in Facebook Live broadcasts, etc.
Essential Job Functions
30% Propose topics and generate story ideas for food features and regular columns, such as Shop Talk, Kids Who Cook, and From the Test Kitchen; meet frequently with the Executive Food Editor to plan current and future issues and review the editorial calendar.
30% Assign or write and shepherd food stories, working closely with writer/developers, test kitchen and Executive Food Editor on concepts and development. Evaluate pitches from freelance writers and developers, and commission stories within budget. Ensure uniqueness and originality of recipes prior to assigning.
20% Copyfit text and write display. Edit recipes and text for clarity, length, and magazine style.
10% Brainstorm with Executive Food Editor, art department and food stylists regarding food photo shoots; serve as editorial representative at food photo shoots. Work closely with designer to approve story layouts.
10% Attend press events and cultivate relevant editorial relationships in the food space.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor's degree and a solid food background from a food publication, culinary school, restaurant, or test kitchen.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years consumer magazine experience, with at least 3 years focusing on food content. A firm knowledge of recipe writing style and current food trends. Experience assigning stories.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to conceptualize interesting, unique food stories that will appeal to the Rachael Ray Every Day reader. Strong oral and written communications skills a must, including experience writing and editing magazine features. Ability to prioritize and manage simultaneous assignments within a deadline-driven environment. Skilled in problem-solving and working independently and within a team environment. Strong eye for detail. Must be willing to travel to meetings and special events.
