Description
There are a lot of arts organizations in North America and not all of them have heard of Spektrix yet. That’s why we’re looking for a Business Development Specialist to join our small but steadily growing sales team. This role will ultimately be helping to spread the word about everything we’re doing at Spektrix to contribute best in breed software and support for arts organizations, and connecting with arts organizations that could use our tools. You’ll do this primarily through a combination of outbound calls, networking and relationship building across the arts industry.
What you’ll be doing day to day
-Outbound calls to organizations that haven’t spoken to us yet will be a crucial part of this role, so you’ll need to be comfortable talking to individuals that aren’t familiar with our company and creating a relationship from scratch.
-We aren’t a high pressure sales team so if someone isn’t ready to evaluate a new system yet it will be your job to respect their wishes but also keep in touch in a mutually meaningful way. That way, when they are ready to evaluate systems, we’ll be front of mind and already know a lot about their needs.
-As a data-led business we believe that data is the foundation of smart decision making. To that end you’ll be responsible for making sure our database is full of relevant, up to date and accurate information. Most of the time this will be looking after your own interactions in our sales database, but occasionally it will mean liaising with other departments like implementation, support and finance to make sure we have the full picture of all the organizations we are looking after.
-We only want to work with organizations for whom our tools and business practices are a good fit so you’ll be on the front lines when it comes to identifying potential clients and figuring out whether their business practices match well with ours. If they are a good fit and are open to evaluating a new system you’ll pass the conversation over to an Account Executive who will guide the prospect through the remaining steps in the sales process.
The easiest conversations you’ll have will be with organizations that already know about us, so it will be important to network with our existing client base and the wider arts industry to establish relationships. Some of this will happen organically and some of it will be tactical as you plan your outreach efforts in particular regions where organizations might already be engaged.
-As a technology company things at Spektrix are constantly changing, so there will be projects that come up from time to time that don’t fit perfectly into the above but will play a role in our success. This may include various tasks like helping to organize social events for clients and prospects, representing us at industry events, pulling together reports or even writing our annual holiday letters to organizations. Most of these projects will be done as a part of a team but it will be important that you’re interested in taking on new tasks and leaving behind your own footprint on things.
About you
-We are a mission driven company and our mission is to make the arts more successful through better ticketing, marketing and fundraising software. As such, it’s essential that you have a genuine passion for, or experience in, the arts. That could mean you are a former performer, musician, director, stage manager, arts administrator, or even an avid arts consumer. Above all though, you must have sincere connection to our clients’ work and want a hand in shaping success for the arts industry.
-You love meeting new people, talking to them, listening to their stories and finding common ground. Likewise people genuinely love talking to you and look forward to your conversations.
-You are an ambitious individual and that means you will hold your work, your colleagues’ work and our clients’ work to a high standard. You’ll constantly be trying learn more about the business and raising the bar to optimize our operations to deliver on our internal and external goals and business mission.
-Technology comes easily to you. In this role you won’t be expected to be an advanced product expert, but you will need to have a deep understanding of the system. An aptitude for using software and an interest in technology should be a natural fit for you.
-This role is relatively new to Spektrix so you should be the type of person who is excited about crafting a niche for yourself. You’ll identify your strengths and play to them to help drive business development, but also know when to call colleagues in for support to achieve the best result.
-Just like every audition won’t land a role, not every outreach effort you make will be successful on the first attempt and, as a result, it will be critical that you aren’t afraid of rejection and have a consistently positive disposition
