GENERAL STAT EMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:
Provide research and organizational support for forthcoming exhibition scheduled to open in Fall 2020. Principal responsibilities include working with the Florence and Herbert Irving Curator of Arts of South and Southeast Asia in research and documentation of the exhibition objects, preparation of research files, and exhibition organization. Tasks also include work with the Department Senior Administrator and collections management staff on preparation of materials and images for exhibition catalogue, loan forms, and immunity and indemnification applications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:
• Maintain object files of all objects in the exhibition
• Act as the main liaison with collections management to ensure up to date information in The Museum database
• Source and organize published references for each exhibition object
• Assemble cultural history source files
• Research and construct historiography of cultures represented in the exhibition
• Conduct bibliographic, time-line and historiography of sites research
• Locate comparative works and address dating issues
• Assist in drafting labels
• Assist in sourcing comparative images and organizing object photographs for exhibition catalogue
• Assist in preparation of loan forms, immunity and indemnification applications
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
• Expert knowledge of Buddhist history and art history of India, required
• Demonstrated ability in the field of history and art history research, required
• Expert knowledge of South Asian art and history library resources, required
• Museum experience, preferred
Knowledge and Education:
• Advanced degree in South Asian art history and/or archaeology, post-doctoral preferred
• Knowledge of Sanskrit and/or regional language, strongly preferred
• Good working relations with colleagues in South Asian institutions, required
