Description
Founded in 1979, Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA), an award-winning off-Broadway LORT-C theatre, seeks a Director of Marketing to join its leadership team. TFANA’s cornerstone is Shakespeare which it produces alongside classic and contemporary drama at its first permanent home, the 27,000-square foot Polonsky Shakespeare Center (PSC) in downtown Brooklyn. TFANA opened PSC November, 2013. It contains the 299-seat uniquely flexible Scripps Mainstage and 50-seat Rogers Studio.
The Director of Marketing supports the development of and implementation of strategic marketing, advertising, and communication initiatives. These promote TFANA’s programs and productions with the aim of achieving all subscription, single ticket, and audience engagement goals. Marketing materials are complementary to TFANA’s fundraising campaign and humanities and education programs so there are coordinated communications. The Director of Marketing reports to Jeffrey Horowitz, Founding Artistic Director.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for planning and leveraging TFANA’s available resources to position the organization and its activities in the competitive marketplace while supporting its day-to-day marketing operations.
- Develop and manage the departmental budget and associated earned income goals.
- Plan and manage the timely execution of approved marketing efforts, including annual subscription and single ticket sale campaigns, and audience outreach efforts through direct mail, telemarketing, digital, electronic, and front of house communications.
- Oversees the daily activities of TFANA’s marketing manager; works closely with a marketing team that includes, the Founding Artistic Director, General Manager; press representative, digital service providers, Ann Murphy, marketing consultant, Milton Glaser, celebrated graphic designer, Myrna Davis, copy writer, Jonathan Kalb, resident dramaturge and other marketing/advertising partners.
- Maintains TFANA’s website with current production information.
- Oversees production and dissemination of all institutional marketing materials.
- Evaluates and analyzes the effectiveness of various strategic marketing initiatives executed on behalf of TFANA.
- Directs market research to assess customer perceptions (both internal and external) about TFANA.
- Develop and execute audience/subscriber engagement programs.
- To increase TFANA’s subscription base.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of six years of experience in non-for-profit arts/entertainment marketing and public relations.
- Excellent writing, verbal, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proven ability and understanding of how to develop and manage a budget
- Experience supervising people.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
