Job Description
Are you interested in a career in sales, journalism, digital or social media? Are you looking for a hands on dynamic internship, in a fast paced environment; where you work side by side with industry leading professionals? Where you get daily guidance from an assigned mentor, then you want to learn about our paid internship program.
WGRZ offers paid internships for college students interested in Careers in Broadcasting and Digital Media. Depending on your focus, assignments would include working closely with show producers and news managers to learn how to craft a compelling, modern and sophisticated newscast, and will work with reporters, social media, web, and production staff to promote on-air content and engage viewers. Students will learn how to select stories for broadcast, format and write stories, how to accurately time a broadcast from beginning to end, and adjust to various control room scenarios. Candidates should have a strong interest in news producing and knowledge of current events, politics, and history. Students will walk away with a good understanding and practical experience as to how a LIVE newscast gets from conception to air.
In our sales and marketing operations, students learn sales strategy and marketing skills. Our program requires interns to receive college credit and proof of enrollment. We prefer students to have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their major course of study. There will be internship opportunities available each quarter/semester. Internships will cover a quarter/semester at approximately 20 hours per week, with a schedule to be arranged by the intern and the intern’s mentor. Hours may vary based on station events and activities.
Job Requirements
No phone calls, please. Candidates must be willing to commit to 16 hours (two eight hour shifts) each week. All internship candidates must complete an online application, cover letter and resume.
