Manager, Learning Research (Contract/Remote)
Description
This position will be employed through Headway consulting firm working remotely throughout the US.
Requirements
Purpose of the Role:
The Manager of Learning Research will be responsible for leading all foundational research efforts connected to learning experience design for educational technology products. This includes the synthesizing academic research in the learning sciences; formulating frameworks; devising principles; and interpreting, applying, and quality checking the applied research. The Manager of Learning Research will be deeply familiar with the learning sciences literature – specifically related to institutional issues such as student success, persistence, and retention; course design and delivery; pedagogy; and learning analytics. The Manager of Learning Research will also be deeply familiar with content, technology, and course design, delivery, and evaluation in higher education content. The Manager of Learning Research will be an innovative thinker who can conceptualize and execute technology-enabled methods that help designers evaluate design decisions rapidly and effectively. The Manager will also collaborate with other learning researchers as well as product managers, user experience researchers and designers, impact researchers, and data scientists.
Responsibilities:
• Synthesize academic literature into principles, frameworks, and models that can be applied directly to product design and implementation.
• Collaborate with designers, product managers and editorial teams to apply, quality-check, and evaluate learning sciences research.
• Collaborate with impact research to evaluate the impact that particular learning theories and elements are making on learner outcomes.
• Collaborate with data scientists to evaluate customer usage of specific research-based elements to improve and iterate product design.
• Conduct ethnographic and qualitative research to support / complement learning sciences research
• Contribute to evidence creation and collection across a evidence lifecycle
• Contribute to thought leadership, internal communications, and external communications
• Contribute to other research functions as needed
Requirements:
• Doctorate in education, psychology, computer science, or related field required.
• At least 5 years experience conducting and applying learning research to ed. products
• Strong understanding of learning processes and learning sciences literature
• Ability to conduct ethnographic, qualitative, and generative research
• Ability to synthesize findings, produce reports, and make recommendations
• Ability to multitask, manage a distributed team, and work in a dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certifications in design thinking, usability testing or user-centered design are highly desirable.
• Experience working in an educational setting
• Ability to speak at conferences, meetings, and customer events
• Ability to make strategic recommendations
• Ability to manage research budgets and resources
