Description
The New Museum seeks a Digital Content Manager to coordinate and manage the Museum’s website and email marketing communications, among other duties. The Digital Content Manager reports to the Director of Marketing. The position is full-time, nonexempt and eligible for the Museum’s full benefit package. The anticipated schedule is Monday-Friday, 10am-6pm.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and steward newmuseum.org
• Create a dynamic homepage that showcases current exhibitions, programming, and events
• Work with other Museum departments to update content (event pages, exhibition pages, visit page, membership page, etc.) in a timely manner, and in conjunction with institutional communications strategy
• Update media on the exhibition pages as it becomes available (including installation photos, press releases, audio guides, video, social media content, etc.)
• Work closely with affiliated organizations (Rhizome, NEW INC, IdeasCity) to ensure a consistent and symbiotic digital presence
• Maintain the New Museum Digital Archive front-end on a quarterly basis
• Serve as point-person with the Museum’s digital agency on a project basis
• Monitor analytics and make recommendations for generating site traffic
Manage email marketing content and strategy
• Oversee the Museum’s email marketing program, ensuring consistent quality and formatting, maintaining lists and segments, and managing the institutional email calendar
• Develop and manage timelines for all institutional email communications (newsletters, invitations, etc.), ensuring campaigns are created and deployed on schedule
• Work with Director of Marketing to determine content for bimonthly e-newsletters; design, test, and deploy
• Supervise design of email communications by Development, Education, and Retail departments, offering guidance and ensuring consistent formatting and quality
• Train and grant appropriate access to content creators across departments
• Monitor statistics and share campaign reports; make recommendations for successful email campaigns
• Strategize and implement ideas for email acquisition online and on-site
• Create new email templates as necessary
Additional responsibilities
• Embark on dedicated research on new digital platforms and products as outlined by the Director of Marketing
• Manage the institution’s YouTube account, uploading video as needed
• Update digital signage in lobby on an ongoing basis
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Bachelor's degree
• Minimum 1–2 years of experience managing digital platforms and developing websites
• Fluency in HTML and CSS, with a working knowledge of PHP
• Knowledge of Terminal and SSH, Git and GitHub
• Strong knowledge of Mailchimp, familiarity with the API and 3rd party integrations
• Experience with Google Analytics
• Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
• Exceptional organizational skills and a keen eye for design and detail
• Experience with project management tools
• The ability to prioritize and manage requests with various stakeholders
• The ability to juggle multiple projects on deadline, work under pressure, and take initiative
• Humor, kindness, and the ability to accept and manage feedback
• A proficiency with internet culture and close familiarity with the tools and the landscape of the digital world
Preferred
• Ability to design and implement user testing scenarios
• Knowledge of Amazon AWS, particularly CloudFront and S3
• Knowledge of best practices for digital preservation
• Video production and editing experience (Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere)
• Excellent writing and proofreading skills
• Interest in the contemporary art world
• Experience working at an arts organization

Founded in 1977, the New Museum is a leading destination for new art and new ideas. It is Manhattan’s only dedicated contemporary art museum and is respected internationally for the adventurousness and global scope of its curatorial program. In 2007, the New Museum made history with the inauguration of its first permanent building at 235 Bowery designed by the Tokyo-based firm SANAA.
