HMH is looking for a Lead Copywriter.
As a Lead Copywriter for our sales presentation development team, you will be working closely with internal designers and subject matter experts across the organization to develop compelling product presentations for our prospects and customers.
Working on sales presentations, the Lead Copywriter will be partnered with a Designer to develop messaging, write scripts, and headlines for sales presentations for all products. These could be higher-level presentations or program specific (reading, math etc.). All are customer-facing.
The Lead will also be responsible for assisting with scripting for videos and demo. For example, if we are working on a Social Studies presentation, the Lead Copywriter may write the video script about students interacting with online tools.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Work across cross-functional groups and with internal creative team to develop sales tools and presentations
• Translate product/program information, research and competitive information from Product Marketing, Product Management, Sales and customers into story arcs, strategic messaging, benefit statements and fully written scripts
• Lead and participate in meetings to present and review content developed by copywriter
• Lead brainstorm sessions, write tag lines, validate with research and write creative rationales.
• Perform research and complete coursework to achieve a deep understanding of how HMH educational programs and their accompanying technology work
• Perform research to acquire detailed knowledge of the target buyers for each program/internal audience for each project, and maintain accurate tone of voice.
• Interact and collaborate with internal clients and provide suggestions for content-related issues.
• Develop concepts, write storyboards and scripts for sales presentations, videos and demos
• Write scripting and headlines for PowerPoint presentations, demos and other pieces as assigned
• Collaborate and provide guidance to creative team on developing supporting graphics and visuals for presentations
• Verify all content is factually accurate and complies with client standards and industry best practices
• Support a variety of marketing copy assets such as video scripts
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, marketing or other related field.
• 5+ years’ work experience as a professional copywriter
• Education experience is helpful, agency expertise working on education clients is desired.
• Some agency experience is required.
• Writing copy for education industry a plus (administrators, teachers and IT professionals)
• Experience in diverse writing styles, including Sales rep-facing and customer-facing
Knowledge and Skills:
• PowerPoint, Software savvy, Used to sharing technology such as WebEx, Go To Meeting and Box
• PowerPoint presentations, videos, demos, customer success stories
• Creative, self-starting and motivated.
• Must have exceptional writing, editing and grammar skills.
• Must be an excellent proofreader with acute attention to detail in all aspects of work.
• Must be a team player who can successfully build relationships and collaborate with teammates, clients and stakeholders
• Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a fast paced environment
• MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint,.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently.
• Ability to judge creative concepts and copy, and clearly communicate creative direction to others.
• Ability to travel – up to 20%
Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
• Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time possibly being domestic air travel and/or driving between customer site
