Job Overview
Emmis Indianapolis Radio is seeking an ambitious Operations Manager who is passionate about we do in local radio, on-air and online. We are looking for a dynamic leader who how to win every day. This position is custom made for the radio guru who loves all technology, production techniques and wants to be an innovator.
The Operations Manager should have a strong track record of strategic planning and program leadership in broadcast or streaming entertainment, with outstanding management, business, and communication skills. Our ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in station programming in a large or major radio market.
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Manages all personnel engaged in the Programming Department.
• Observes activities to ensure compliance with FCC regulations including Emergency Broadcast Service and transmitter power requirements.
• Discusses plans with marketing personnel to promote sales of programs and time periods to advertisers and their agencies.
• Confers with General Manager to discuss station policy and administrative procedures.
• Plans long and short-term programming and promotional strategies.
• Recommends departmental budgetary needs.
• Conducts strategic research to gain high Nielsen ratings and determines if changes need to be made with personnel or format based on interpretation of Arbitron ratings.
• Schedules music when needed and performs on-air as needed.
• Performs special projects under the direction of the General Manager.
• Other job related duties as required

• Cross-functional influence, relationship building, and project management skills towards a broad constituency ranging from partners, customers, sales, programming and technical management
• An innate relationship-builder with excellent networking skills
• Strategic thinker and a facilitator of change with the ability to instill trust in teams
• Bachelor’s Degree program or broadcast related experience and/or training
• Five years station programming in a large or major radio market
• Ability to analyze and interpret Nielsen ratings
• Knowledge and understanding of FCC regulations
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience analyzing data to draw programming business insight
• Experience developing and executing strategies based on financial modeling and budget needs
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to conduct industry research and create proposals
• Ability to understand industry contracts and handle confidential issues
• General understanding of FCC license requirements
• Familiarity with digital transmission equipment.
• Experience with software including PD Advantage Web, PPM Analysis tools and Tapscan
• General knowledge of MusicMaster software, Wide Orbit software, and running an audio control board
• Keen attention to detail
• Excellent multi-tasker
• Ability to think on your feet, with exceptional problem-solving abilities
• Team oriented, helpful, professional, focused and positive
• Experience with radio station playout technologies is a big plus
• Enjoy working with new technologies in fast paced environment; ability to work long hours
• Positive attitude focused on quality programming and promotional strategies for the Indianapolis market
