Pearson is constantly looking to add to our AMAZING team! Presently, we are in search of a highly engaged subject-matter-expert for our Bilingual Math Editorial project!
The focus of the Editor role is to assist in all phases of a project with primary emphasis on translating to Spanish and editing manuscripts, page proofs of student-facing materials and/or ancillaries. With supervision, you will manage small projects, coordinate with Editorial Vendors, Design, Production, Digital Production, and other departments during development from manuscript stage through to final, approved product.
You will provide constructive feedback as needed to editorial vendors and subordinates. You will formulate solutions to schedule and quality problems and prepare accurate status reports on a regular basis. You may be called on to set up and/or participate in scheduled status meetings as needed and oversee work of outside freelancers and development houses.
This opportunity is remote and is a term of project, benefits eligible role, forecasted through June 2018.
Here is what you will get to do:
• Write and edit manuscripts, and review page proofs in both English and Spanish
• Monitor appropriateness of text material as to reading level, content accuracy and currency, freedom of bias, and teachability, in both English and Spanish
• Write and provide art specs for artists and photo-researchers; participate in evaluation of sketches and choice of photos
• Oversee work of in-house editors, freelancers, and outside developers
• Ensure compliance with program guidelines, state standards, and assessments
• Participate, as appropriate, in market research efforts (e.g. prepare sample lessons, conduct phone interviews, attend focus groups, etc.)
• Participate in planning assigned projects; make creative suggestions that reflect an understanding of the market place and an awareness of customer needs
• Ensure that product responds to customer needs
Qualifications
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in Math or Math-related field or Editorial; Master’s is preferred
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in developing and/or editing bilingual (English/Spanish) products for the US market
• Teaching experience preferred
• Must be knowledgeable regarding educational methodologies
• Able to manage the day-to-day development of small outsourced projects, with the guidance of a manager or supervisor
• Able to work towards the development of consistent products by having a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the planning documents, such as planning charts, scope & sequence documents, etc.
• Proficiency with computers and software programs including MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Power Point
• Exhibits good verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish
• Has the ability of editing and writing texts in English and Spanish, exhibiting an excellent handle of grammar and spelling in both languages
• Understands the production process for print and digital instructional materials; ability to create and deliver content in a format suitable for digital products
• Demonstrates ability to write original content, and to edit and rewrite content generated by others, to meet standards of accuracy, style, grade level, and market need following specific program guidelines
• Able to review complex project documentation, such as correlations to standards, and give the appropriate feedback or guidance to outsource vendors who are developing the documents
• Promotes sense of teamwork and works to reduce team barriers and conflicts
• Able to respond quickly in an environment of changing priorities setting relevant priorities to meet deadlines; strategic and efficient in planning/executing to ensure consistent on-time delivery of product
• Commands work habits that are highly productive, working efficiently to develop quality content
• Must be able to provide consistent and reliable feedback to outsource vendors in order to inform the correct development of products
• Must be able to utilize constructive feedback to refine skills and reduce mistakes
• Proactive in anticipating, evaluating, and solving for issues to avoid disruptions in workflow
• Displays self-confidence in actively participating in meetings and open forums
