General Summary
The Costume Design Assistant is responsible for the efficient execution and coordination of all supporting elements for the smooth running of the Costume Design team. Workloads are to be handled with deadlines and quality goals at the forefront.
Essential Job Functions
• Research, maintain and archive digitally character costume briefs as requested by the Costume Designer.
• Print and trim all selected images making them available digitally as needed for costume board layouts for individual character costume selections, sculptor reference, director reviews, board meetings, publicity display boards, VFX info folders, artist launch sheets, look books, style guides, character costume illustrations and info graphic sheets plus all other events as they arise within assigned time parameters.
• Create Photoshop layouts as requested; publish to Shotgun and keep edits promptly updated; prep all images requested so they are ready for legal processing in a timely manner in advance of their request times.
• Keep informed of current fashion trends, seasonal designers’ shows, textile & fabrication technology as well as artists and other mediums that uncover technology that could be incorporated into our costume technology; calendar, track and document research to be ready for relevant events.
• Respond timely to urgent requests and prioritize between projects shooting and in development.
• Liaise with other departments both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner, on behalf of the costume department.
• Attend meetings where necessary, take notes and follow up on action items.
• Prep all costume design materials for meetings such as launch sheets, information packages, and any printed information required.
• Forward plan the Costume Designer’s daily calendar and respond promptly with necessary requests and updates.
• Schedule photographs of costume designs and materials as needed and archive assets as needed; stay on top of puppet approvals and photograph details in a timely manner to inform and update VFX launch package info sheets.
• Promptly document and edit VFX fabric sample boards to reflect production changes.
• Assist with all marketing needs, filming on site, awards, tours and exhibits.
• Assist with Excel format scheduling of costume design and look development while keeping in mind workflow and planning accordingly.
Qualifications
• B.S./B.A. in film, art, costume or related field and/or 1 – 2 years prior experience preferred
• Knowledge of textile and fiber art techniques
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to plan, schedule, prioritize and monitor progress across multible processes in a simulteneous manner.
• Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems
• Understanding of materials and processes used in the costume design process
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Working knowledge of MS Office programs, Photoshop and scheduling software
Salary
Salary is commensurate with skills and experience.
