Traffic Reporter/Newscaster
I. Job Summary
| Major goals and objectives.
This position is responsible for reporting traffic information and creating accurate, visually interesting traffic reports that are easy to understand, relevant and meaningful to viewers. This will include continuous updates across all media platforms, including the station’s website, social media accounts, as well as our mobile platform. Additionally, will develop, write and report daily news stories and events that support the station brand.

Anchors/reports traffic on air, interacting with co-anchors/reporters as part of designated team(s) to create an on-air experience which supports newscast goals and station brand. Analyzes traffic data to produce meaningful traffic reports. Writes and edits reports or related stories. Perform live shots as needed.

Provides daily story notes outlining ideas for future stories. Passes along facts concerning ongoing projects. Provides progress reports on story checks. Shares information relating to upcoming events, meetings or story developments. Presents news stories or reports via on air, live from the set, live remotes or live indoor locations in a professional and polished manner.

Posts information to web, mobile platform, and social media pages.
5%
Makes public appearances at station approved events to support station brand. Also performs duties as spokesperson for KCTV/KSMO.

Maintains contacts within business community to report promptly on new or continuing events.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements| All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Completion of high school, or equivalent. College degree in communication, broadcasting or related field preferred.
Experience:
Experience with breaking news and ad lib situations. Also with on-air reporting or traffic incident reporting. Previous anchoring experience preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong computer and graphic skills.
Good news judgment and analytical abilities.
Excellent written and ad-lib communication skills.
Knowledge of Greater Kansas City area roadways preferred.
Ability to multi-task and perform well under pressure and deadline.
Must have strong computer and graphic skills as well as excellent on-camera performance, news judgment and analytical abilities.
