DK Editorial Assistant
DK, a publisher of award-winning, illustrated reference, video game guides, children’s and life style trade books is seeking an editorial assistant. The Editorial Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting the publishing program by interacting with various systems to create and maintain the records and documents for the books being published. The Editorial Assistant is also responsible for general office administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is reliable and has excellent organizational, time management and communication skills. The ideal candidate is also experienced with word processing and spreadsheet programs and is comfortable working under tight deadlines.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates need to have demonstrated the key attributes of the position, including: reliability, organization, time management, and communication skills. Other qualifications include:
BA or higher in English, Liberal Arts, Writing, Journalism or equivalent; and computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and/or Google Docs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Extensive use of computer keyboards and the telephone required, as is the occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set up new books (print and ebooks) and corresponding metadata in various proprietary software systems
• Request Accounts Payable paperwork and account creation for all new freelancers/contractors
• Process check requests for payments for authors/freelancers, track those payments, and maintain payments database
• Forward contract requests and manage contract files
• Hire and manage a pool of freelancers as needed, including development editors, copy editors, proofreaders, indexers, recipe testers, and technical editors
• Create, send, collect, and file various freelancer agreements
• Update pub plans and book schedules
• Apply for pre-assigned control numbers and copyright registrations
• Manage bookroom: receive copies of books each month, distribute as necessary, provide books for others in house as necessary and occasionally send out publicity copies
• Assist in the preparation of sales materials.
• Provide general and editorial support to the Indianapolis staff as requested
• Serve as the primary contact for incoming phone calls
• Monitor and control the entry of visitors into the office space
• Collect and distribute incoming mail and process outgoing mail
• Order office supplies for the department
• Coordinate meetings, ordering food as necessary
