Provides innovative solutions for complex engineering problems that influence industry and company standards.
Core Responsibilities
• Implements technical vision and strategies related to Mission Critical Operations, including mission critical facility design, engineering, construction, and major improvements to critical infrastructure elements, with emphasis on mechanical infrastructure and energy efficiency in highly-diverse operating environments.
• Applies expert engineering methodologies in one or more engineering areas (including mechanical) and performs complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and presents the justification to senior management.
• Recognizes and plans for future technical challenges associated with the pace of evolution of key industry products and elements, and plays an integral role influencing and documenting environmental and energy efficient design standards, equipment specifications, equipment sourcing guidelines, equipment maintenance requirements, monitoring requirements, emergency response procedures, risk mitigation strategies, safety-minded policy development, and process documentation and standardization.
• Develops and maintains effective relationships with key customers and stakeholders. Identifies and develops key Regional resources to implement cross-functional knowledge sharing and cultivate the concept of self-auditing program based upon the Critical Infrastructure Basis of Design (CI BOD).
• Defines and implements one or more panels of subject matter experts from among the regions to collaboratively develop, implement and enforce rigorous process and control protocols that provide governance, protection and guidance on change management, commissioning and related processes, review and approve highly complex or risky procedures, advise during emergency situations, and provide guidance to all levels of critical infrastructure operations.
• Effectively manages conditions in high density equipment rooms through seamless integration of overall environmental challenges, including both equipment-cooling design and room-cooling design.
• Defines and implements mission critical facility monitoring protocols, standards that ensure continued operation, facilitate what-if analyses, prevent potential power problems. Works collaboratively to advise on monitoring applications and methods for monitoring, controlling and analyzing critical cooling generation and distribution systems for the entire critical facility and makes that information available to regional managers, energy managers, capacity managers, operation centers and other key stakeholders in real time.
• Conducts event analysis, trending analysis, capacity planning and compliance auditing, to identify areas of improvement for critical facility key performance measures; deconstructs complex problems into straightforward, actionable and measurable solutions; develops strategic solutions and conceives, initiates, and leads projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation.
• Measures energy efficiency of various aspects of the operational environment through use of various indices for design and performance, implement viable energy management solutions, and measure/calculate annual energy savings for implemented solutions.
• Monitors and reports on the progress of the department and all technical projects towards the company's engineering goals and strategies. Communicates feedback and analyses with actionable insight.
• Keeps well-informed of industry trends and important emerging technologies and consults on internal projects and initiatives, researching and recommending leading-edge-technology solutions.
• Abstracts and applies innovative, technically-sound, cost/energy-effective and safe engineering solutions for critical facility design and engineering that reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality, reliability, or maintainability.
• Collaborates with vendors to develop, design and lab test conceptual solutions for a wide range of operating environments to determine suitability of new and emerging technologies, measure energy efficiency, establish equipment demands, and/or define appropriate equipment compatibility solutions.
• Demonstrates a proven record of effective capacity planning and value engineering.
• Demonstrates proficiency with computer aided drafting tools such as AutoCAD and Visio.
• Team player who works well with both technical and non-technical resources, mentors team members, builds enthusiasm for change and assists others to adapt to change; focuses on delivering services despite challenges, works co-operatively with others to achieve the best outcomes, and achieves outcomes using good judgement and quick decisions that lead to business success.
