Job Description: Digital Creative Director
Reporting to the Executive Director of Creative, the Digital Creative Director will be the design lead for Storyful campaigns in all platforms including digital, mobile, video, and live events. Working across the pre- and post-sale process, the Digital Creative Director will participate in formulating visual concepts; oversee the design of mocks and decks in response to client RFPs; provide creative direction for all visual executions; and support internal departments and external partners in the application of Storyful identity and branding.
The successful candidate will have a passion for branded content within the digital space. In addition to overseeing an in-house design team, he/she will collaborate extensively with Marketing, Project Management, and Editorial, and leverage a network of independent designers, developers, and illustrators to create industry-leading, revenue-generating branded content solutions. This is a client-facing role that will work with Sales to help pitch ideas and present the design and experience of sold programs to client stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
• Oversee a team of creatives, and collaborate closely with a team of creatives; develop consistent and coherent processes for client work; create and implement design best practices and process
• Devote approximately 50% of time to day-to-day contact with client during the creative phase of projects. The Digital Creative Director is responsible for the creative vision for each client project, for communicating that vision to the appropriate team, and for adhering to the Project Brief during creative execution.
• Collaborate with Account Management and Sales to obtain knowledge of clients’ requirements and the project brief; improve client results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing creative processes and approaches and implementing changes where necessary; analyze trends, look at new data and apply these to your work to bring fresh approaches to client solutions
• Demonstrate expert knowledge of clients’ business model and value chain so that our services ultimately support their business objectives; direct the team on client RFPs, pitches, and activations
• Source and oversee freelance network of artists, designers, and developers
• Proactively leverage Storyful technology, engineering, and development resources
• Work closely with Strategists, Project Managers, and Producers to keep projects on schedule
• Train and oversee a team of digital designers and digital art directors
• Stay abreast of trends and competitor’s work in the space, as well as creative, digital innovation inside and outside Storyful
Requirements include:
• Passion for visually led, short-form digital storytelling
• Strong collaboration skills with designers, editors, and project managers
• Extensive digital design experience
• Deep knowledge of best-in-class native advertising programs across competitive publishers
• Ability to facilitate the creative development process, including providing clear direction, and producing work cost effectively and on schedule
• Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated ability to build out a team, lead and work independently
• Self-motivator with strong creative and strategic thinking skills
• Strong client presentation skills
• Unwavering attention to detail and an acute awareness that everything counts
• Relentless desire for innovation, balanced with business and user interaction priorities
• Digital branded content experience within an agency setting
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Capable of working proactively with multiple departments to achieve results
Education and Training
• Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts/Graphic Design/Visual Communications or commensurate experience
• A minimum of two years as a Digital Creative Director, leading a design team in Marketing, Advertising, or Publishing within an agency setting OR client studio
• Expert in Adobe Creative Suite and understanding of the web production process
• Knowledge of emerging media storytelling tools, including AR, VR, 360, etc.
