Vice President, Advertising
The Daily Press Media Group, located in Newport News, VA, is seeking a results-oriented Vice President of Advertising to provide strategic leadership and direction for its Advertising Departments at the Daily Press, Virginia Gazette and Tidewater Review. You will be responsible to direct divisional employees in pursuit of company strategic and operating objectives and goals; plans, organizes, and controls department operations; identifies and communicates resources needed to achieve department’s objectives and goals.
The successful candidate will be an experienced senior sales and advertising executive with an outstanding track record of revenue growth and success in a publishing or multimedia environment. Candidates should possess extensive experience in advertising and/or marketing; sales strategy; new product development; recruiting, organizing, mentoring and motivating a high performance sales team; client relationship building; and cross-functional management. The individual must be a proven leader with outstanding communication, organizational skills and business skills.

Responsibilities
• To ensure that all activities and operations are performed in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations; and the departments equal employment objectives are achieved.
• To establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment for the department. Implement policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of industrial accidents.
• To plan short and long term strategies to achieve Company and divisional goals and objectives.
• To establish organizational structure to support plans.
• To direct operations to achieve budgeted profit results and other financial criteria; to provide for system of control which identifies deviation from plan in linage, revenue, and market share; to take corrective action on deviations that affect Company goals and objectives.
• To recommend advertising rates and rate strategies.
• To develop new sources of revenue.
• To ensure' sound service and working relationships with key staff of important customers and vendors, with outside services; to represent the Company to the profession and to its public.
• To select, train, and develop-subordinates; to establish and review performance targets.
• To provide professional climate and maintain a high level of morale and productivity among advertising employees; to provide advertising management succession plan.
• To measure and improve productivity.
• To establish and maintain standards of quality; to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws and Company policies' to recommend policies and procedures.
• To provide for the safety and security of division's people and assets.
• To insure all operational decisions are communicated to all affected departments in the division.
• Should have an undergraduate degree in advertising or marketing or equivalent related experience.
• Should possess an in-depth knowledge of newspaper advertising sales, digital sales, service and management. Strong analytical, communication, project management, decision-making, organizational and managerial skills are required. Requires a broad-based knowledge of newspaper and digital publishing and good business instincts and judgment.
• Requires technical communication skills for use with clients, subordinates, and superiors. Must be able to handle responsibilities of the action plans and goal setting. Requires skills in negotiating, problem solving, prioritizing, and marketing knowledge. Must be able to function under strong deadline constraints.
Qualifications
• Typically requires 10-15 years of newspaper advertising management experience.
• Requires occasional travel and consistent in-town/out-of-town entertaining in order to establish and maintain customer and professional relationships.
• Must possess valid driver's license and accessible transportation to visit clients and branch offices.
