Art Director - Spectrum Networks
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for Spectrum Networks style and brand image which is communicated through a variety of media and content to create and enhance station identity. The Art Director will be responsible formulating design concepts and presentation approaches for visual communications media such as broadcasting and advertising. Will be responsible for directing a staff in art work or layout design.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead and inspire the creative services graphics team to deliver high quality output across a variety of platforms including linear, web, digital and print collateral
• Formulate basic layout design or presentation approach and specify material details, such as style and size of type, photographs, graphics, animation, video, and sound
• Ability to execute design work on projects, while still directing a team of designers
• Interact/direct designers to execute all assigned projects.
• Work with creative director and producers to develop design solutions.
• Provide accurate time and cost/resource estimates for each project
• Oversee project flow and ensure all projects are delivered on schedule, with excellence
• Review illustrative material to determine if it conforms to standards and specifications
• Interacts with external vendors
• Inspire and mentor creative team to deliver best in class work. Inspiration should come in the form of both advancing the creative vision and providing hands-on direction as needed
• Establish and uphold high quality design standards
• Possess a consumer-centric view of design to ensure the work that the department generates is on-strategy, breakthrough and consumer engaging
• Monitor and benchmark industry best practices
• Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and FLASH
• Knowledge of Chryon, Premiere, and C4D (or similar 3D program) a plus
• Must be able to work under daily deadline pressure while demonstrating strong design skills
• Must have ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
• Must be able and willing to work an extended schedule and be flexible with schedule changes
• Communication: excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate solutions; and able to relate well with diverse populations and age groups
• Interpersonal: ability to interface with internal company personnel
• Attitude: requires adaptability, enthusiasm, initiative and a positive approach to problem solving; must enjoy working with people
• Must be able and willing to work different shifts and be flexible with schedule changes
Education
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field or comparable work experience
Related Work Experience
8 + years: Designing for television, print and web applications
5+ years: Management Experience
Working Conditions
• Normal office environment
• Works inside and outside throughout the year and occasional travel required to production sites
• Must be able to work under time pressure deadlines and willing and able to work different shifts or longer shifts due to "breaking news" and severe weather emergencies. Willing and able to work weekends and holidays and in severe weather emergencies, such as hurricanes
• Lifting and carrying up to 5 pounds
