Role/Purpose:
The AutoCAD Senior Product Manager role combines deep empathy for customer needs with an understanding of software development capabilities and available technologies to define a product that is both compelling to the market and achievable by the engineering and experience design organizations. Senior Product Managers review and distill information from a wide variety of internal and external sources to understand market opportunities and formulate product release targets and timelines in conjunction with product stakeholders and agile development teams. They are responsible for ensuring clear and compelling communication concerning their products to both internal and external audiences, positioning their products within the context of customer aspirations and company strategies and investments.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
MARKET ANALYSIS
• Identify opportunities and define urgent and pervasive product requirements for targeted market segments.
• Identify customer needs as they pertain to product definition and delivery related to areas of business focus identified by the Business Strategy team.
• Coordinate with product support, key accounts, and industry leaders to identify market needs and articulate customer feedback to product teams.
• Identify competitive offerings and assess their strengths and weaknesses.
• Evaluate the relative importance of key product features.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
• Define the organization’s unique ability to deliver value to customers while differentiating from competitive offerings.
• Coordinate with the Business Strategy team to distill strategic intent into structured product release roadmaps that are compelling and achievable.
• Investigate and assess internal and external technologies for relevance to current and future market needs and product offerings.
• Manage product creation and enhancements from concept through strategic planning to tactical execution, helping set priorities.
PRODUCT PLANNING
• Create and maintain product, countrification, and applicable content roadmaps, managing the entire product or product line life cycle from concept through strategic planning to tactical investments within product development and marketing
• Manage decisions to continue or discontinue product offering based on profitability.
• Provide ongoing guidance to Product Owners in the development of agile team development backlogs summarizing customer requirements.
• Work with agile development teams to help set investment priorities.
PRODUCT DELIVERY
• Help define opportunities for outsourced and partner developments, informing resourcing decisions for release targets.
• Analyze buy, build, and partnering options for delivery of customer value.
• Manage outsourcing contracts from scope and fee negotiation to delivery.
• Maintain partnering relationships with key external development organizations strategically aligned with company investments.
• Work with Operations, Marketing, and other key stakeholders to successfully deliver products to market.
• Help define the go-to-market strategy with Product Marketing, providing product positioning for all markets, prospective buyers, and target customers. Develop a list of specific problems that the product will solve for the market and specific product requirements to address those problems and enable the development of effective marketing collateral, PR, advertising and marketing programs.
INTERNAL COMMUNICATION
• Evangelize internally and externally for Autodesk products.
• Inform key product stakeholders including company leadership of current and emerging market trends and representative customer feedback.
• Communicate and advocate for product roadmaps to internal leadership and stakeholders.
• Manage expectations with internal stakeholders and customers.
• Provide product information to customer management and support to assist in packaging products into solutions to solve target segment problems.
• Serve as main internal point of contact for worldwide product strategy.
• Build strong internal partnerships with Product Marketing, Corporate Marketing and Field Marketing.
EXTERNAL COMMUNICATION
• Articulate product value to customers while differentiating products from competitive offerings
• Evangelize internally and externally for Autodesk products.
• Identify, create, maintain, and leverage key relationships in target industries to enhance product awareness and adoption
• Act as the primary contact for key industry thought leaders, including industry specialists, research analysts, press, and other influential parties.
Job Requirements
• MBA or B.S. or M.S. in an Engineering field or with related business experience.
• 3+ years as a Product Manager in the technology industry, preferably with experience in a company developing solutions for the Cloud, Mobile or SaaS.
• Experience with CAD software like AutoCAD, Microstation, SolidWorks, or Catia.
• You are a self-starter, able to take high level direction and drive teams towards execution with minimal direction.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in working with high performing teams.
• Familiarity with Scrum/Agile/ Lean Startup methodologies.
• Strong communication skills, especially technical speaking and writing.
• Excellent organization and presentation skills.
