Editorial Assistant, Razorbill
Penguin Random House is seeking an Editorial Assistant to join Razorbill. This position reports into both the President and Publisher and the Associate Publisher. Candidates should possess a literary sensibility, a passion for reading, and be creative and proactive. Strong communication, organization, and writing skills are essential. The ability to prioritize and meet deadlines is required. Prior book publishing and/or media industry experience preferred. This position provides the opportunity for growth and to learn about the overall editorial process and the inner workings of a publishing office.
Responsibilities include:
• Managing calendars and scheduling conflicts, coordinating department meetings, providing general administrative support
• Evaluating manuscripts and researching potential book projects, transmitting and tracking manuscripts, writing reader’s reports, and logging submissions
• Coordinating editorial and production processes
• Drafting promotional copy, including title information sheets, flap copy, catalog copy, and online descriptive copy
• Managing and curating Razorbill’s social media accounts
• Assisting in the creation of publicity materials, such as press releases, press kits, and organizing mailings
• Creating travel itineraries for authors and staff
Additional assignments, projects, and responsibilities may include: reading and evaluating manuscripts, coordinating the editorial and production process, writing ad/marketing copy, organizing mailings, strategizing marketing and publicity plans, and tackling special projects.
The ideal candidate has a 4-year degree (or equivalent experience) and relevant work experience. Experience in book publishing is preferred. Candidates should have a strong interest in young adult and middle grade titles.
Candidates must be self-starters with impeccable attention to detail. Candidates are required to prioritize, meet deadlines, be proactive, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Strong presentation, communication, organization, and writing skills are essential. The ideal candidate is also savvy with social media and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
