U.S. News & World Report is looking for an experienced Assistant Managing Editor to lead a small team responsible for social media content, promotion and strategy across the company. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced publishing environment where priorities shift frequently.
Responsibilities:
• Manage social media team of three, ensuring that content is created and feeds are optimized to drive traffic and engagement. This includes writing and editing content as well as coordinating and scheduling content from the seven channels at U.S. News.
• Develop clear social media strategies at the channel or product level.
• Work closely with editors in the channels on social content development.
• Evangelize best practices for developing and promoting content on social within each channel, including organizing training for writers and editors.
• Work with product managers and PR to build social plans around major launches and editorial packages.
• Define, measure, and report on KPIs.
• Keep current on the social landscape, making recommendations on platforms, tools and best practices
Requirements:
• Great editorial experience, judgement and writing skills.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or other writing intensive discipline. Marketing or business coursework a plus.
◦ At least four years’ experience managing a media outlet’s social media presence.
◦ At least two years’ experience managing a team.
◦ Demonstrated ability to work in analytics tools including Adobe Analytics, Facebook Analytics, and Twitter analytics. Expertise in EXCEL is helpful.
◦ Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and with writers, editors, and product managers.
