Job Summary:
The Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating environmental, industrial health and safety programs, and fostering a strong culture of EHS for the California Region. This position reports to the Region Vice President of HR and directs all EHS related activities, translates concepts, and implements change in support of Company and Division wide EHS strategies. This position also plays a key role in the company's incident management and business continuity planning. Handles coordination of all internal and external compliance programs and inspections to ensure compliance with applicable standards and prevailing professional practices. Ensures that actions are taken to correct deficiencies or violations of standards, investigates employee complaints and suggestions regarding hazardous conditions, maintains site health and safety records, manages support contracts, and interfaces with federal, state, and local regulatory officials.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic leadership and guidance for the Region EHS team, including people, data, and budgetary responsibilities. Ensures ongoing and full compliance with all applicable safety regulations, workplace safety and inspection programs.
• Monitors Worker's Compensation, auto liability and general liability claims and acts as a liaison to insurance carriers, local management, Corporate Risk Management, benefits, injured employees and medical providers.
• Ensures compliance with EHS audit, inspection and risk assessment processes. Reviews and analyze EHS audit results to confirm that corporate, business, and government standards are met.
• Monitors laws and regulations, evaluates applicable standards and requirements, and partners with Division teams to formulate the most cost-effective compliance alternative that provides for the protection of the environment, provision for employee safety, maintenance of appropriate risk management.
• Works closely with key business partners to evaluate, develop and implement programs and processes to minimize potential for employee injuries and vehicle incidents.
• Functions as a liaison with governmental inspectors, agencies, and regulators in the event of inspections to correct deficiencies and to minimize citations and fines for non-compliance.
• Participate in relevant external EHS professional business and industry organizations such as the American Society of Safety Engineers.
• Manage third-party EHS service providers.
• Develops and implements recognition programs with Division teams to acknowledge positive behavior and celebrate successes for EHS achievements.
• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
• Travel may include intrastate, within Region and outside of Region up to 70%.
Core Responsibilities:
• Ensures the efficient and safe operation of facility and equipment by directing, developing and managing strategic plans for the office facilities to ensure the office/facilities are well maintained and up to code, facilities are fully secured, office equipment is fully operational, office services are implemented in a timely manner and meet the needs of the customers.
• Plans and use resources economically; prepares accurate budgets and monitors expenditures; develops appropriate informational resources and safeguards their use; procures, stores and distributes material economically and efficiently; ensures efficient maintenance and operation of facilities and equipment to meet the needs of users.
• Ensures ongoing and full compliance with all applicable safety regulations, workplace safety and inspection program.
• Develops plans to meet unexpected situations, new developments and changes in the business environment; prepares for emergencies; anticipates events; understands the factors and conditions affecting the organization and respond appropriately when these change.
• Develops and maximizes workplace ergonomics best practices to reduce lost time injuries and enhance employee productivity.
• Monitors Worker's Compensation, general liability, claims and acts as a liaison to insurance carriers, local management, Corporate Risk Management, benefits, injured employees and medical providers.
• Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
• Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

Job Specification:
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent
Business
Generally requires 10+ years related experience
Additional Requirements:
• CSP, or other EHS related certifications, a plus
• Generally requires 10+ years' related experience in EHS management or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience managing people.
• Knowledge and application of environmental, health and safety regulations and familiarity with EHS regulatory agency protocols.
• Strong experience as an Environmental and Sustainability subject matter expert
• Experience leading and implementing EHS strategies within a matrixed corporate culture.
