Social Media Intern, CityLab.com
CityLab, The Atlantic’s sister site devoted to the most pressing issues and innovative ideas shaping cities and neighborhoods, is looking for an exceptional social media intern to work about 15 hours per week for the fall semester.
We are seeking a candidate who is adept and passionate about selling a story with a tweet, and who geeks out on promotion, analytics, and finding a good home on the internet for a broad diversity of content.
Responsibilities Include:
• Working with CityLab editors to manage our social media feeds and promote our content. This includes applying both an entrepreneurial sensibility and high journalistic standards to how our work is presented, packaged, and distributed in the social space.
• Working with CityLab’s writers and editors to build and leverage personal-professional social media accounts, and helping them understand the mechanics of different platforms as needed.
• Identifying new platforms, partnerships, and practices that can drive traffic and grow our audience.
• Occasional web production duties.
Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:
You should be an excellent writer and editor with a passion for social media and experimenting in the digital world. You should love journalism and working on the web. You should have an awesome sense of humor and a desire to work hard alongside a scrappy team of lovable nerds.
You'll Get Noticed If:
• You have experience in digital journalism. Those with social media experience are especially encouraged to apply, but we are also interested in hearing from sharp web producers and writers who are interested in a broader range of strategic responsibilities.
• You have a background or passion for cities or related topics.
• You have creative new ideas for social media projects.
This position is based in Washington, D.C. Please submit a résumé, cover letter, and either links to clips (3), examples of social media or digital editing work (3).
Across Atlantic Media, generally, the firm looks for two “pillar gifts” in its candidates. In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions.
1. Force of Intellect - Atlantic Media seeks a discipline and rigor of thought as manifested, often, in exceptional academic performance and, later, success in a professional environment.
2. Spirit of Generosity - Equally, Atlantic Media seeks what we term a spirit of generosity – a natural disposition towards service and selfless conduct.
Atlantic Media is an EOE of Minorities/Women/Vets/Disability.
