Job Description
Don’t just read the news – write it and share it.
WTNH News 8 is looking for an Online Content Specialist to join our web team. You’ll help write and edit the news stories that you see on the website, as well as our specialty sports microsite, SportzEdge.com.
A WTNH/WCTX Online Content Specialist is someone who understands what is on people’s minds right now. Someone who knows what is going to drive traffic to our websites, social media, and mobile platforms, and then creates informative and unique content that provides value to our audience.
Primary Duties include:
• Writing breaking news information that comes into the assignment desk.
• Writing news and sports items from news releases, and edit broadcast copy into stories for the website.
• When you’re not writing, you may be producing photo galleries, infographics, or other elements to help tell a story better.
• Social media is part of the plan for success, so you’ll be helping to share our stories via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, text, and e-mail.
• Ability to hit deadlines is a must. While we work as a team, web producers must be able to handle all facets of content production by themselves as if they were working alone.
Don’t know coding for the web? You don’t need to know HTML markup (but it could help). Our tools are easy to use so you’ll get up to speed quickly. If you know how to use WordPress, you’re halfway there. If you have experience with basic photo and video editing, that will help too.
Be flexible in your schedule. You could work nights, weekends, and holidays.
You’ll need to have strong writing, communication and organizational skills.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The Assignment and Web Producer must be able to stand, sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the News Producer must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
