Purpose
Your role is to create and manage a market-leading portfolio of innovative learning products that measurably improve learning outcomes and grow and sustain our business, by combining world class content, learning design and innovative learning technology.
In any given market, the Commissioning Editor is the market expert and product owner, who can identify customer problems worth solving, define the right solutions to meet those needs, and lead the commercial creation and management of a portfolio of learning products to best serve that market. The Accounting and Finance Commissioning Editor / Publisher role is an important role in a rewarding environment, offering a high degree of personal autonomy, the opportunity to collaborate with talented people and develop new skills in areas ranging from product innovation to learning science.
Reporting to the Publishing Director you will set the best product strategy for the accounting and finance markets, and define and deliver products that are valuable, effective and successful, by;
• Knowing your markets and understanding customer needs
• Identifying and assessing the most profitable product opportunities to develop
• Building compelling product propositions to serve those opportunities, with appropriate business cases and business models to support them
• Defining and developing products to deliver on those value propositions and product-specific learner outcomes
• Scouting, signing, developing and managing authors
• Leading cross-functional teams to take propositions through the product lifecycle to successful product launch and growth in the market
• Maximizing business value from your products, making good decisions on each one to deliver the strongest return on investment.
• Managing a portfolio products at all stages of the product lifecycle, including those already in the market
• Owning the overall product pipeline and setting the overall product strategy for this market.
• Delivering on revenue targets and maintaining a budget.
You will work with content, assessment and learning technology to create the next generation of digital products and learning services that measurably deliver learner outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
• Build demonstrable market expertise through deep customer engagement, allowing you to understand market and curriculum dynamics, identify customer needs and create products and services that meet those needs.
• Define clear and compelling product portfolios and individual product propositions, in line with Pearson strategy and customer needs.
• Define and communicate a clear and comprehensive market strategy and publishing plan – with the evidence to support your vision and the plans to deliver growth targets.
• Achieve new product signing and development goals in line with the publishing plan.
• Drive validated propositions through our product lifecycle, acting on customer insight and feedback to select, prioritise or refine plans accordingly.
• Identify and engage with the key market networks – from author talent to development customers - required to create valuable products.
• Make market-focused and commercially sound decisions to maximise the return on investment with each product or application developed.
• Develop smart content driven by clear learning outcomes and quality user experiences, and measured by standards and efficacy.
• Advocate your portfolio and new products, within the organization and in the market.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues – in particular, Digital Strategists, Digital Content Developers, Editors and Marketing Managers - to lead high quality products and services to market and to achieve sales targets

Education, Qualifications & Training
• Educated to degree level
Previous Experience
• Relevant experience of publishing or product innovation and product management in a learning environment
• A keen interest in how content and technology can combine to support successful learning
◦ Excellent project management skills
◦ Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and organisational skills
• Microsoft office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills
