Editorial Assistant - Avery

The Avery imprint at Penguin Random House is seeking an Assistant to join their Editorial team! In this exciting role, the Editorial Assistant will provide general administrative support, read and evaluate submissions, and facilitate the production process from manuscript to bound book. Supporting the Publisher of Pam Krauss Books and the Executive Editor of Avery, this role provides an exciting opportunity to play a crucial role in the editorial process within a distinguished publishing house.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Supporting two supervisors with incoming submissions and acquisitions, tracking and reading submissions, writing readers reports, drafting rejection letters, preparing P&L statements, drafting contract requests, and requesting payments.
2. Preparing manuscripts and art for transmission to production and ensuring a smooth production process, including managing digital art files.
3. Writing book briefs and jacket memos, writing flap copy, reviewing catalogue copy, obtaining advance quotes, and connecting information and materials to other departments.
4. Working with the Managing Editorial and Marketing departments to meet deadlines for title information sheets, jacket and catalog copy, audio scripts, etc.
5. Communicating with authors and agents.
6. Attending weekly editorial, art, and hot titles meetings.
7. Providing general administrative support to the Publisher and Executive Editor including phone coverage, scheduling, booking conference rooms, calendar management, etc.

• Prior office experience preferred
• Genuine interest in cookery, health, and lifestyle categories
• Strong follow-up and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects simultaneously
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Adobe Photoshop and Bridge, a plus
