Print Production is a key department within the business. Production work closely with a range of internal departments and external suppliers to manufacture Macmillan Language Learning titles and ensure that they are readily available in our warehouse. Production’s key responsibility is balancing schedules and quality whist achieving the best financial outcome for the business.
The Production Controller is responsible for managing the scheduling, estimating, manufacturing and cost controlling of all new components on the assigned list and ensuring the implementation of best practice.
This is a critical role which would suit an individual who combines a strong eye for detail and accuracy with an open mind and solution focused approach. The role includes some responsibility for purchasing so an individual who enjoys negotiation and is motivated by continuous improvement will find the role satisfying.
Responsibilities
• Establish regular communication with the different project teams to gain updates on changes to the schedules, and work as part of a team to form a cooperative and approachable environment.
• Take responsibility for raising purchase orders for print, CDs and other components
• Use a range of systems to monitor and track costs and schedules.
• Macmillan Education values effective relationships with 3rd party suppliers and expect that individuals with purchasing responsibilities pay close attention to building effective relations, rigorous negotiation and prioritising tasks.
• Work as part of the production team, supporting colleagues, implementing new processes, investigating new suppliers, keeping up to date on new technolgies in print and papers, and generally contributing to our success
Experience, skills and qualifications
Essential –
• Experience of publishing production required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Project management.
• Ability to create and maintain accurate records.
Desirable -
• Preferably educated to degree level.
• Negotiaton skills
• Budget management.
• Familiarity with Word and Excel.
