Pearson is constantly looking to add to our AMAZING team! Presently, we are in search of a strategic and highly engaged subject-matter-expert for our Math Editorial Director role! The focus of this position is strategy and planning, successful execution, and taking an active role in building and developing a solid internal team with managing external resources to complete assigned projects.
Your responsibilities will be to provide overall product development leadership for our math product line. You will work with Product Management and Design/Technology to shape and finalize individual product plans, overseeing prototyping activities, component array planning, and customization strategy for the product line. You will also be responsible for managing the work of the supervisory staff on major department projects through all stages of product development, ensuring that projects are completed on time, on budget, and in alignment with original product vision. Along with the Product Managers, you will share responsibility for the overall success of the product line in the marketplace!
This opportunity is located at our Boston, MA, or Glenview, IL office site. Additional remote locations may be considered.
Here is what you will get to do:
• Manage the work of senior staff members on one or more projects in the following responsibilities:
-Development of competitive and detailed program plans based
on customer needs and with clear areas of differentiation
-Seeing content through all stages of production
-Ensure that product responds to customer needs
-Ensure that programs are published on budget and on schedule
• Working with Product Management, analyze competition and market trends and incorporate findings into program
• Participate, as appropriate, in market research efforts (prepare sample lessons, conduct phone interviews, attend focus groups, etc.)
• Participate in planning assigned projects; make creative suggestions that reflect an understanding of the market place and an awareness of customer needs
• Provide marketing support, as appropriate, that may include sales and conference presentations, correlations to state guidelines, and workshop support for departmental products
• Participates in managing staff performance and development
Qualifications
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in Math or Math-related field; Master’s is preferred
• 7+ years of instructional materials development experience or in an editorial capacity within educational publishing is required
• 7+ years of project management
• 7+ years of staff management, team development
• Teaching experience is strongly preferred
• Experience in curriculum materials development, in instructional design development, and in the visual delivery of instruction
• In-depth understanding of print and digital production processes and workflows
• Strong problem-solving skills in dealing with the ambiguity of a fast-paced setting
• Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills, with ability to communicate effectively for diverse audiences
• Ability to respond quickly in an environment of changing priorities
• Demonstrated ability to work productively with counterparts in other functional groups
• History of effective staff management and leadership; generate excellent involvement from a variety of staff members who have various specialized skills
• Must have customer-focus in working with the team to conceptualize marketable product; turning great ideas into concrete product plans that fit the timeframe and resources available
• Must be strategic and efficient in planning and executing to ensure consistent on-time delivery
