Associate/Senior Editor, Nature Chemistry
Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.
Nature Research, Springer Nature
Associate or Senior Editor —Nature Chemistry
Nature Chemistry is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join its editorial team. The journal publishes high-quality papers in all areas of chemistry and also features commentary and analysis from and for the wider chemistry community. For more information about the journal, see our website (http://www.nature.com/nchem).
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a chemistry-related discipline and we are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in organic chemistry, but would welcome applications from outstanding candidates in any area of chemistry. Postdoctoral experience may be an advantage but is not required; emphasis will be placed on broadly trained applicants with a good knowledge of the chemistry community.
Key elements of the job include the selection of manuscripts for publication, management of the peer-review process, as well as commissioning and editing content for the journal (review articles, News & Views, features and commentaries). Editors are also expected to write editorials, research highlights and blog posts.
This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating role that calls for a highly motivated individual with excellent literary skills and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences — the successful candidate must be dynamic, outgoing and have excellent interpersonal skills.
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, and will ideally be located in our London office, although the possibility of working in our New York or Berlin office will also be considered. Applicants should already have the right to live and work in their preferred location.
Applications should include the following:
1. A cover letter telling us who you are and why you want to become a full-time Nature journal editor.
2. A CV detailing your education, relevant employment history, list of published scientific papers, and any other achievements that you feel demonstrates your suitability for the position.
3. A 300-word Research Highlight in the style of Nature Chemistry covering a peer-reviewed research paper that has caught your attention recently. The paper you highlight should not be from your own (or previous) research group, but should be on a topic that you find interesting (and might even wish to learn more about). The highlight should explain the significance and implications of the research to someone who is not a specialist in the subject.
The closing date for applications: 22nd October 2017.
Please note we will be reviewing candidate applications as they are submitted and so would encourage you to apply as early as possible.
