Gannett and the USA Today Network are looking for an experienced media sales professional to lead a high-performance sales initiative dedicated to creating comprehensive digital media solutions for national retailers. The National Retail Sales Advertising Director is based in Chicago and is responsible for creating digital based media and branded content solutions as our evolution from print to digital accelerates.
In this role, you will apply your broad-based knowledge and understanding of the retail category, digital media and technology, offline-to-online strategies and attribution models. The ideal candidate will also have a good understanding of data-driven promotional and go-to-market retail strategies and performance analytics.
You will create, pitch and sell transformative digital solutions to a wide array of retailers using the USAT Network’s broad set of best-in-class tools and solutions. Strong existing retail client and agency marketing relationships will benefit the qualified candidate, as will an understanding of national and local-market campaign strategy and execution.
Core Responsibilities and Competencies:
• Grow USAT digital media investment in the retail category by capturing and converting print/preprint budgets into digital revenue to reach quarterly goals
• Work closely with the National Retail Sales team to identify and prioritize first-mover retailers
• Utilize broad base knowledge and understanding of the retail business, offline to online attribution, analytics, technologies and go-to-market strategies.
• Create and pitch digital strategies and solutions that augment or replace print-based retail marketing activities (preprints, inserts, circulars, etc.)
• Lead internal teams and utilize company resources, including our GET Creative custom content studio, to develop best-in-class solutions that deliver against customer objectives
• Measure, optimize and iterate customer programs on an ongoing basis to ensure timely evolution of strategies and tactics for future programs
Required Experience:
• 7-10 years of multimedia (print and digital) or digital sales experience, preferably working with national retailers
• Proven record of successfully leading in a goal-oriented, highly accountable and key-account environment.
• Ability to build and to manage a B2B sales organization.
• Ability to maintain a deep and broad understanding of the market (e.g., customers, prospects, key trends, and competitive media).
• Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills, both written and oral.
• Demonstrated success in a goal-oriented, highly accountable environment.
• Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
