The senior designer in the Trade Division (General Interest), reporting to the creative director, designs covers and interiors of cookbooks and lifestyle nonfiction titles. He or she works with the creative director, publisher, and editors to create effective covers and book designs. The senior designer handles many aspects of art preparation, prepares instructions for compositors, and creates final mechanicals. He or she also supervises freelancers, reviews design contracts, and works closely with editorial operations and production to ensure that specs are clear and deadlines are met.
Requirements
B.A. or B.S. degree; five years trade jacket and book design experience, including work on cookbooks or illustrated books; expertise in typography, layout, and page makeup; expert knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; great communication and organization skills; ability to work well with tight deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
• The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
