Position Summary
The Weather Channel’s Strategic Insights Team provides the organization with actionable data-driven insights to help shape strategy, develop recommendations and executable plans, as well as drive informed decision making through custom qualitative and quantitative market research, users trend analysis, message testing and optimization and advanced analytics. As a leader of a small team, you will be at the forefront of evaluating programming trends, performance, the competitive landscape, and audience behavior, executing research studies, and crafting strategies for The Weather Channel Television Network and Local Now OTT product. In this role, you will be expected to turn business issues into the right research questions and pursue the best analytical initiatives to drive excellent, impactful insights that move strategy and business execution forward.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Design an audience and marketplace analysis framework for The Weather Channel television network as well as Local Now to support Editorial, Marketing, Product, Distribution, and Business Development and the overall strategic planning efforts for the company
• Deliver compelling, succinct executive-ready presentations covering the television network, dayparts, and programs, and OTT product offering as well as the competition
• Act as strategic business partner with senior management across the organization including, but not limited to: Ad Sales, Programming, Distribution, Marketing, Business Development, Product, Technology, and Communications
• Proactively identify trends and areas of risk and opportunity for audience growth and conduct deep-dive analysis, connecting dots between large data sets, with recommendations
• Forecast short-term and long-term performance and report on performance vis-à-vis goals
• Spearhead quantitative and qualitative market research studies and a variety of custom, ad-hoc projects that unlock business insights and drive sound decision-making on key business issues. Present results and recommendations to executive leadership
• Evaluate results of activities and adjust research programs to meet changing market and competitive conditions
• Manage complex vendor relationships and continually seek innovative and news ways to solve business problems and negotiate cost-effective solutions
• Own and effectively manage P&L based on budgetary parameters and client needs
Education, Experience, Certification Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• 7 years of experience in television/video audience research or data analytics role, preferably for media or technology company
• 3 years of experience managing and developing a team at varying levels of experience
• In-depth understanding of cross-platform media landscape and consumption habits as well as media math concepts and data analysis
• Expansive knowledge of the business dynamics of the industry, including cross-platform, ad sales, and distribution/partnership issues
• Demonstrated experience with linear and digital measurement tools and services such as Nielsen ratings, nPower, StarTrak, AdIntel, MRI, Adobe Analytics/Google Analytics
• Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills and data visualization capabilities

• Strong business acumen and operational decision-making competence
• Proven ability to analyze and interpret data with client needs in mind, and translate and synthesize research into insights, thinking creatively and innovatively
• Desire to get beyond the abstract and general to deliver rigorous, nuanced, and actionable recommendations
• Capacity to create effective, concise reports and proposals that quickly inform and persuade executive management
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and strong problem solving abilities are crucial
• Demonstrate adaptability and resilience in the face of ambiguity to drive business impacting change
• Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable communicating both verbally and in writing to all levels within the organization
• Demonstrated thought-leader, experience with developing, motivating, and mentoring a high performance team
• Strong experience in qualitative research, such as focus groups and in-depth interviews and quantitative research, including survey design and analysis
• Ability to work under pressure, set team priorities, and load balance efforts to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
